This is an amazingly sharp perfectly exposed capture, I love the always majestic look and feel of a nice raptor portrait, though I have never been close enough to use a flash but i can see how the lighting is wonderfully even.
If you ever want to get these guys and many other raptors in flight, come see me :) I know just about every roost in a 100 mile radias....

At first I thought this image was taken at the zoo too. What a great moment to see this Redtail Hawk in the wild and be able to get an image like this so sharp.

This hawk was wild . . . but not 'in the wild'. It was at Point Vicente Whale Day (Interpretive Center) and was a rehabilited rescue having had his tail painted by someone. He was 100% here and quite ready for release but was being held by a liscensed falconer. Wooo Hooo!

Thanks very much Jason. The colors are, indeed, a bit blue (cool) . . . this was a bird handled by a licensed falconer and rehabilitated for re-release to the wild. A blue tarp roof reflected blue and a white tarp BG reflected paler blue so the colors are true to the image when it was shot. I DID consider the simple warming . . . but rejected it as an attempt to change the natural image as it was captured. GOOD eye my friend . . . and I'm glad you mentioned it. Now I'm second guessing myself (even with the award) . . . but still . . . it's a beautiful bird! :)
