A moment of everyday life and that expression that seems to be sinking into the waters of thinking - about what? The excellent focus on the eyes enhances the look to some mental place - a place that the image doesn't hide but still only exposes in a very subtle way. And since the main actor is perfectly separated from the background by such a powerful selective focus, the eye of the spectator concentrates on the center if interest - but without being really able to say what that center depicts.

The image says that there *is* something in the visions of the main actor, but nothings more than this. Thus, suggestive power emerges simply by depicting what *is*!

Great work!

Nick

Looking back to the day I shot this picture, this was a usual sunday meeting of "Fotoamateri", company of photo-amateurs in my hometown. Denis is one real B&W photography master, using only film cameras, and knowing all about papers and chemicals. This is a snapshot, this is a everyday snapshot, Denis listening to a conversation, enjoying coffee and his cigarette. And I am glad that you the everyday life situation in this picture, because it really is!

The joy is painted on his face on this capture, Goran! But some kind of deeper, much fuller joy than the usual smiles with less substance. Everyday life can be so very special.

So I go now for my night pipe mand whisky and wish I could join that special everyday troup!
