Doyle:
After slipping and falling on sandstone with my D70, this time around I got a D80 with CameraArmor. It's like a silicon gel wrapper for your camera body and it comes with a lens hood. I got the "smoke" color. On this lens the hood was vinetting the wide angle, so I took it off, but it will work great protecting my 50 mm lens.
The point is I do a lot of ourdoor photography and since this model does not have a metal structure I'm spending some money to keep it safer.
I also had to replace my guitar strap - I finally wore through the treads and it frayed. I just bought the strap from the same company, and it's errr... "more robust". It will be a long time before I wear this sucker out.

I can recommend this product - read reply to Doyle. Especially for you, Mr. Outdoors man.
I also got a Joby Gorillapod SLR as a gift, and got a Slik pistol grip head for it. I think that I can carry two hiking/skiing poles with a third on the pack and then wrap it around them to make a reasonable hiking tripod on the cheap. Just got tired of carrying the massive Bogen tripod around and could not afford to go basalt/carbon.

At the end of the day I was able to get what I wanted done with a D80 - $50 US of camera armor offers all the protection I needed, and the vertical grip dual power pack gets me what I needed as far as event photography.
There are probably better things with the D200 but all together I think I got just as much as I needed for what I was willing to spend.
