Brian, I did this the hard way . There is a very easy way I have learned since. I use elements 4. Go to layer, then duplicate layer. Then remove color, and get the eraser tool on the left and erase the top layer, leaving the colored one showing. Then flatten your layers and wa la!!

I like the way the fireplace and plaque mimics a grill (as in the front end of a vehicle) Still not sold on PS and such... but I like the look of this.
