An excellent capture of the snow laden boughs, Nick!
Dave.

The snow is very nicely exposed Nick. So many people seem to get snow wrong. This is a nice sample!

Well, Andre, we had so much snow in March last year, that from the many shots I made some just had to have the snow nicely exposed! :-)

But seriously, snow is indeed at the same time easy and hard to get right. I had many shots that I thought would be easy and they turned terrible. So at some time I decided to use the nice trigger of the T90 for seeing the world through real working aperture and then I understood some things.

It seems that the available light influences the snow too strongly in dependance of aperture. This must be connected to the fact that snow reflects very very well but at the same time very chaotically, since each and every small crystal of snow reflects light in some other direction. This, combined with the fact that different apertures do not only influence the DoF but also dispersion phenomena, might be one of the reasons that snow can drive somebody insane. Using real working aperture to see what the world looks like through the view finder, I noticed that I could get any possible color by using some certain f/stop. I don't have any rule of thumb yet but I am working on that with white reflectors that exhibit a similar behavior. Anyway, pure white and pure black seem to be rather hard to get some times.

Have a nice day,

Nick
