Have you tried to lighten this a bit? I think it would be more effective if not so dark.

Hi Lea & thank you for the comment.

I did try to lighten, though due to the use of the digital zoom & lighting conditions this photo is rather pixelated; the act of lightening brought the noise more to the forefront of this photo.

Instead I added a B&W layer to the background (Original photo the background colour was too merged with the colour of the fawn)

What I liked the most here was the highlight caught in the Fawns eyes, so settled with this result. I don't mind the darkness that much.. though that is my preference & I can understand how you see this as being on the dark side.
