About Palm leave abstract

I am busy presenting a basic course in photography and was challenging the students to forget about the specs and superior quality of fancy equipment - the photo is taken within the mind first - the camera is just a tool to make it visible. To demonstrate the concept I used my 2megapixel Sony cellphone camera to take some abstract photos in a nearby garden. Made some minimum enhancements in PS.

What do you think - do I have a point?

So very true Joggie... There are many analogy's that can be used... A paintbrush does not an artist make... A fishing rod does not a fisherman make etc... A piano does not a pianist make... :)))

The eye see's... the minds eye visualises and composes... BUT, somewhere there also has to be a sense of *feel* or *heart*... To lift an image from flat & sterile, to, multi dimentional & with life.... Now, I don't think that can be taught... Be the tool a pencil, paintbrush or camera...

The beauty of the outcome is the individuals concept of the same object...:)))

Give ten people the same 2 meg cellphone camera and the same object/subject ie: the palm leaf above... With no prompting or coaching... and you will have ten different versions of that leaf... Then give the same ten, a high end, 10 meg SLR, and repeat the process... ~~GRIN~~ The creative people's work will *jump* regardless of camera used... The *by the book, follow the rules* people will have cleanly composed visuals... and the *snappers* will be happy with their efforts regardless...

Each has it's own merit, for the reason, or, purpose of capture by the individual...:)))

It's OK Joggie... ~~GRIN~~ I'll stop waffling and go now...

Excellent teaching tool Joggie...:))) Extra nice palm leaf by the way... You are an *artiste* Sir, and a feeling one at that... ~~GRIN~~...

Onie...
