About I thought that the pose was nice, but the background was a little disturbing. So I added blur and made a square image. The right decision?

I'm not a fan of soft portraits, so for me the blur on the left is unneccessary, though others would disagree I'm sure. I'd still advise cropping it and changing to portrait format. On the plus side, her expression and pose are enchanting and you've got the most important part - the eyes - nice and sharp.
Regards, Gary

Indeed it is very nice. Great angle and POV. Superb tones and especially I like the blur. It gives this portrait a special touch.
Best wishes, Sascha

I am not a fan for the square format. It doe's however suit some images more than others.
What I like is that you have filled the frame, the pose looks very natural and the eye's are nice and sharp.
The conversion from color to B&W is also nicely done and I think you have done a nice job with the blurring.

I think it's an outstanding portrait... the softness on the left is a tad bit disturbing though, to me. :)
