We saw perhaps a half dozen platypuses in Australia, and this was the most we saw of any of them. I think they're largely nocturnal, but they do come out in the shade or around dusk and dawn. This one was in the shade of some overhanging trees. Tnanks for your comment, Doyle. Steve

Actually, platypus are monotremes, not marsupials. They lay eggs. You wouldn't see those ripples and distortions if it weren't for the platypus. Thanks for your comment, James. Steve

Yeah, that platypus is an odd one, taxonomically speaking. A mammal that lays eggs and is venomous. Go figure. Monotreme... I'll have to remember that one. Regardless, very kind of the critter to make some waves for your photograph.
