Thanks so much. The camera is new to me so I'm honing my craft and really enjoying it.

A lovely subtle floral - not usually a subject of much interest to me, but this certainly caught my eye. I guess it was the vanilla-pod colours and understated shapes that did it...

Could be a tad less soft in focus but the subtle colors are superb. Very pleasing to view.

I'm not a flower person myself, either. There wasn't a songle one at my wedding. I'm trying to explore all of the wonderful things my camera has to offer. I don't see this so much as a flower, but a peice of art. Thank you for your comment.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Could you please explain. Still learning...

Jan Hoffman   {K:39467} 5/30/2007
Kimberly -- Sorry I was not more specific. I use the term "soft" to refer to several things in the picture (focus & contrast): portions of the photo are in focus and some out of focus and that is fine; that is because of the shallow depth of field when taking a close-up -- but no one segment of the picture is very crisp showing sharp focus. The sharpest point of focus appears to be the end of the flower but it is still "soft" there. This is because of the subtle color and also because the lens was not likely perfectly focused on this spot. Your choice of where you focused could have been intentional for effect and my comment was to express a preference as opposed to a criticism. I would likely have chosen to set the sharpest focus point just a bit further out (but only by a fraction).
Hope this helps.....
--Best to you, Jan

Thank you for elaborating. I agree it should have been pulled out some. My intention was to get a focus on the inner workings of the flower. If you could zere in on the (not sure what it is called?) vanilla colored inner it is very sharp but because the color isn't a high contrast it is hard to see that. When I veiw this on my home program and go right into the center you can even feel the wetness. But I would have like to get the black things (?) sharper and it would have been perfect. For the look I was intending, anyway. Thanks again for taking the time.
