| About |
Centralia, PA, USA. Centralia was a thriving town full of coal miners. In the 1960's the underground coal veins caught fire. They tried for years to extinguish the fires, but finally gave up. The government bought up most of the homes and demolished them to avoid further fire. There are still a handful of residents in the area.
This shot is of the one remaining row home. The others were demolished years ago when the residents took the government's offer to relocate. The area just 100 yards behind this home has been charred and has visible smoke rising from it (not seen in shot). The area has a strong sulfer oder and many sink holes.
