Hi Chris, good to see your work again. I find it difficult to tell where you intended to focus the viewer in this one. The composition is nice, but the figure disappears a bit too much, and the scale of the figure to the rest of the picture doesn't work for me.

Well... not everyone has to like it. I have an 8X10 on my wall and concider it one of my favorites.

Chris, I often feel that way- some of my favorite images are ones that don't work for others. I think your work is often superb, and I don't throw that term around lightly, but for whatever reason I don't connect with this image. Maybe if I saw it another day I would see in it what you do, but for whatever reason today it escapes me. Best regards.

it definetely goes to my favourites. The mood here is simply exceptional. The use of light in so difficult conditions is impressive. Very classy B&W. I feel like was in Beijing's hutungs

...Like it a lot!
maybe the feeling of almost closed space with the big building in the back, don't know...

not sure what puts people off about this one. that mysterious figure smoking in an alley is great. the skyscraper in the background is unfortunate, but it's so faint it hardly matters. love the shadows in the foreground. beautiful picture.

Chris - this is a MUCH better picture than the thumbnail indicates. The image overall is pretty good, but the light on that cloud of smoke makes the shot. Good job - I understand why you have it on your wall.
