About The challenge for this was to make up a band name using the letters DPL and create an album cover for them. I have to say, it was probably the most satisfying challenge I've undertaken, and as far as the actual photograph itself, it has become my favourite of all I've taken of Ally.

Lyrics from "Hey Ya" by Outkast is the album title.

Name of the band was inspired by something my husband said. Not sure it really defines a particular genre, but it sounded cool :)

I knew exactly how I wanted to edit this. Muted colour, save for greens and yellows, and grain for a worn photo feel. Was originally going to have her swinging a hoola hoop for a bit of 70's family photo quirkiness, but decided the dancing somehow worked in better with band name and album title.

***
Shadow/Highlight adjustment.
Removed a couple of leaves from grass in foreground.
Adjustment Layer, hue&sat to boost greens.
Dup layer, Colorize - dark yellow, color blend mode, reduce opacity.
Select background, added lens blur.
Add noise, monochromatic.
Crop for square format.
Reduce size.
Added text with drop shadow.

Perfection Rina! I'd say this was a great entry to the challenge.

She looks so carefree and I really can see this as an album cover, the treatments you have used worked....well, they worked a treat! LOL

ROFL! Cheers Beks :) It did rather well (18th out of 147 entries) considering the amazing work entered by pros and semi-pros. Rina,
A couple of notes on this one.
First of all, I think you were wise to leave the Hula Hoop out of it. I know what you would have been trying to do including that kind of prop. But, by leaving it out, you have created an image that seems to me to be very sellable (is that a word?) to a large demographic.
I don't mean to say that it is too middle of the road, just that it is the kind of image that a lot of different age groups would not be embarassed to be associated with. I hope that makes sense?
I think the colourizing, grain and great DOF give the image just the right amount of quirkiness you were looking for.

You could have chosen to go over the top with this image, but I don't think that was the intention at all.
So, a very pleasing good natured image.
Andre

Well done and obviously up to the challenge. best of all you did not go over-board.

Absolutely Andre. I think the most satisfying part for me was not so much the photograph (even though I love it to pieces), but being able to believably "sell" that photograph to the virtual masses as complete product. You're right, had I gone overboard or used the wrong prop here, I would have lost a portion of the market.

Great insight as always Andre, thank you so much.

Wow. Absolutely wonderful work . . . excellent DOF . . . spot-on composition . . . extra kudos for your model and choice not to use the hula hoop . . . Love the "Shake it Like . . . " title.

I can see this on a CD cover EASILY!
