Jan Hoffman   {K:39373} 7/21/2007
I want to join the "GLEE CLUB" as this is just flat out such a great shot. The expression on Anthony's face is unbridled and wonderful -- and here I sit with a stupid grin on my face and no one to share it with. Thanks for this one, my friend.
--Smiling Jan

Perfect timming as usual Grandpa--- what do they call YOu anyway- Grandfather, Pops, Popa... just curious as I am 'Grandmashell' & my Mom is referred to as 'GG 'since she is a Great Grandma -LOL!

Yes, you're welcome, Doyle!:)

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99839} 7/25/2007
Thanks Michele! I am known as Grandpa! A badge of delightful honor I assure you. After Jenna went home I spent some one on one with Cydney and reminded her . . . "Who's grammpa's no. 1?" to which she said . . . "Me . . . and Jenna" Ahhhhh . . . . that green eyed booger hits home. Needless to say . . . she knows she's still my special one (aren't they all)!!

I got the GH thing!! :)

If it was only captured one tiny bit of a second before! Before the eyes were a bit too much closed for having some more direct glance of that smile expression! But still very very well done in its balanced toning and very good isolation of the main subject from the background with selective focus. An extremely "live" one despite the flashlight that is many times just distorting the natural looking!

Keep it up,

Nick

Lydia Nel   {K:3579} 7/28/2007
Lovely portrait - the epitomy of joy, such a pleasure to view - please explain the significance of "center-weighted" flash - I've bought one of these SB800 speedlights and find it rather compelling to figure out. And why you used an oragne filter - my knowledge of filters is really non-existent. Regards
Lydia

Leonie Fitzpatrick   {K:40299} 7/31/2007
~~GRIN~~ Now that is certainly the face of absolute excitement and glee...

Anthony is also a real cutie Doyle :)))... The joy of a child is pure sun-shiney gold... Good for the heart always...:)))

Onie...

Absolutely Lydia:
Sorry for the delay but I am still recovering from some medical issues.

The center-weighted flash is not so much a function of the speed light as it is for the camera and it is communicated to the light you might be using. For some great SB800 tips online you can review http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/SB800_techniques.pdf which Nikon puts out . . . but essentially, in figuring out how to select a light intensity for the flash, the camera's onboard computer needs to know where to sample the light you are currently using so it can figure out what amount of light you need. Center-weighted means it does not consider the peripheral areas but calculates based on the light at the center of focus. I'm not sure if I'm being clear but feel free to e-mail at the address in my profile if you have any questions about this. It's a great light . . . and can be used remotely OFF-camera as well!

The filters effect how a black and white conversion deals with various tones. Red, orange, green and yellow seem to be used the most . . . imagine looking through yellow glass at an image with yellow lines. When all the yellows are removed . . . yellow becomes an off-white . . . yellow is a blue-blocker so skies might seem paler. Let me know what program you use and I might be able to show you a method you can use to explore the various differences digitally.

Always enjoy seeing your comments and questions Dear Lydia.
