About Today I went in search of a little known region called the "Bisti" in northwest New Mexico. Nobody could really tell me where it was, just a general area. It is a geological dream like walking on the moon.

I think I found it. If this isn't the Bisti, it sure was a great photo location.

This is going in the Big and Little project. There were big rocks... and there were little rocks...

and.... thanks to Paul Lara... who found the Bisti on an obscure map... (who'd a thunk)... this is NOT the Bisti

....if you watch it....sorry...no.. if you watch you.. :)))

Paul Lara   {K:80144} 8/16/2007
Wow, what a surreal image with fabulous tones!

Paul Lara   {K:80144} 8/16/2007
Well, the BLM-managed wilderness area says it is 36 miles south of Farmington, and then follow a dirt road to the east.

Shirley D. Cross   {K:141834} 8/16/2007
Great photo, lovely, Cap'n, but feel it needs a bit of a contrast boost...like so...

Shirley D. Cross   {K:141834} 8/16/2007
Oh, for Pete sake! I just reposted the original. Here we go...

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 8/16/2007
Well Shirley, I really don't see any difference between the first pic you posted and my original... LOL

Yes, I see what you mean... but I was a little gun shy on the contrasting. Afraid to be told it was too dark... I had made a minor contrast adjustment but I see what you mean. From now on, you are my projects manager. If you get your bouncing e mail fixed.

Thanks,
Capt. Midnight Daylight Desert

Shirley D. Cross   {K:141834} 8/16/2007
Is my e-mail bouncing???

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 8/16/2007
Thanks, Paul.... Guess what... this is NOT the Bisti, then, though somewhat the same geologic forms... So I have changed my title.... in your honor...

Guess where I'm going this weekend... looking for a road that runs off east. I was to the west of the highway.

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 8/16/2007
Yes, I tried replying to your gravestone photo... your provider said you had died and went to HE|| for stealing my moon picture.

Shirley D. Cross   {K:141834} 8/16/2007
Hahaha...What a pit! Sometimes Comcast causes problems...no reason why. Try this one: treasureprints@msn.com

Brigitte R.   {K:15397} 8/16/2007
Man oh man, do I like this... I like this a lot. This may not be the Bisti you thought it was, but I'll bet they will make a state park out of this place when they discover this amazing image! I'm serious... this looks just like an Ansel Adams. You are like an expert with that new lens... you must've studied a lot of photos using the wide-angle because you sure know's what you're doing boss!! Wow... if this doesn't get an award, I dunno.... 7+++

Kiarang Alaei   {K:49060} 8/16/2007
Now after your great night photography and long exposure expeiments, it's joyful to follow your soul in the magic mountains and landscapes Dave!
the tone here works perfect for enhancing the mood.
thanks for share ...

Well thank you so kindly, Brigitte. I am red faced as we speak. So, will you marry me? LOL

Good shot, I like the effect that the wide lens done here, it gives nice strong fealling of depth into the image, that excactly done at 10mm, amazing, I like that...and that lens surely is a target for me...nice in sepia!

Twisted  Rich   {K:774} 8/16/2007
Beautiful

Brigitte R.   {K:15397} 8/16/2007
You know what else is nice about this shot... the "lead in lines" pointing towards the main subject, that being massive rock outcropping, which is formed by the clouds at the top and the chuck of rock. I find myself coming back to this image over and over... I am a huge admirer of Ansel Adams' work, and this is soo reminiscent of his style. There are so many componants to this image that make it no less than outstanding!

Aniko Heart   {K:25957} 8/16/2007

A beautiful b&w image!! The textures on the wall surface and the rocks are great!! This goes well in b&w and the perspective and the tones are superb!!
