About Another shot of the intense storms that ripped through New Mexico last night. This was taken after midnight near my hometown. This is over the El Malpais National Monument, the lava fields of extinct volcanoes in the Zuni Mountain range. In fact, you are probably looking at a volcano here.

4 minute, 6 second exposure.

I love lightnings, unfortunately we live in a zone with no more than 4 or 5 storms in a year, and is very difficult to takes photos because the ligth contamination.

This image is magic for me...we want more Dave.
Congratulations!
Best wishes.

What an amazing photo. I only wonder how long it took to get that shot. Very nice.

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 8/24/2007
Thanks, Rose. It depends on what you mean as to "how long". Technically, I shot for about 5 hours last night but it resulted in 110 captures of lightning out of 500 shots. But in essence, it took a 4 minute exposure to capture this.

Best wishes,
Dave

Thanks, Bernar. Don't worry, there's plenty more where that came from and the lightning has already started to hit for this evening... and guess who will be out playing with a camera?

Dave

Thank you, Biljana... yes, I am glup for being out in this... and my family hates it. But I am going out to be glup tonight, too.

Es una radiografía de las raíces de algun gigante árbol???
Ufff... cuánta energía derramada!
La guardaste en una tarjeta!

Shirley D. Cross   {K:141630} 8/25/2007
Another so amazing shot, Cap'n!:)

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 8/25/2007
Gracias, Alicia. Parece las raíces de un árbol, no él. Cuál era asombroso es que éste era sobre todo un perno del relámpago, no un manojo entero de huelgas durante la exposición.

Recuerdos,
Dave

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 8/25/2007
Thank you, Shirley... what was amazing is that this was primarily one strike. There may have been a smaller bolt mixed in there but when this multiple branch bolt struck, I closed the shutter and the finished photo was this.

Best wishes,
Dave

WOW...you're welcome!:)

John Hatz   {K:143808} 8/26/2007
great shot, many stricks at the same image and I'm very impresed about the time you have shot that, 4 minutes plus, without any kind of red spots....oh my...I must try so night shots right now! :-D
It's amazing how the sky does not overexposed under some many time...ok ISO100 but some times I miss ISO50 that 1D serie have....I miss that a lot!
Excellent shot Dave.
Have a great week dear friend!

Dave Arnold   {K:55613} 9/4/2007
LOL, Mahassa... maybe you've created a new thing called guess the picture formed by the lightning... kind of like what people do with clouds...

Thanks,
Dave
