About Another in my series of Cydney. A quiet moment while Mom and Grandma talked in the next room.

Added grain in concentric layers from outward to inward . . . but NOT on her to draw the eye. Curious about how the grain is seen.

(28mm; NX coversion, Yellow filter; ISO 100; front curtain i-TTL-BL on camera flash; 1/60 sec; F/3.3)

nice children photo.

Robin Wickenkamp   {K:16356} 9/6/2007
Brilliant, just darn brilliant Doyle! What you've done with the lighting is perfect...Cydney just pops from the darkness. Excellent clarity, composition (I prefer this comp over the color version), and conversion. As far as the grain goes, I don't see any...then again, I have monitor issues (or from time to time I think I do).

Excellent portrait my friend!

Take care...Robin

Thanks Robin, I prefer it as well . . . though Marny doesn't. Looks like more than a few aren't too keen but . . . you know . . . gotta please yourself first, right Robin 'lensbaby' W.? :P At least you and I have some taste! I think the grain has largely vanished from the re-size so don't fret the monitor. And Brilliant applies to your (unbiased) analysis too! BTW - I'm not referring to anyone here at UF . . . but to comments I've received overall. Just so nobody thinks I have a grudge against any commenter here!

Thanks Avi! The minimal perimeter grain largely disappeared after re-sizing. Appreciate the comment though!

well maybe if you got a dark tan, got dark contacts and and;-)I´m sure she carries a lot good stuff in her genes from her handsome, brilliant grandfather:-) And I MEAN that!

Wonderful shot Doyle. I see no grain. I see a wonderfully highlighted face with a strong base created by the hands. Thank you for showing us how to do that properly.

Ahmed Ismail   {K:19853} 9/11/2007

I am amazed of the details on her, and especially the unbelievable details on the skin of her nose! I do not see that degree of sharpness everyday, so I really have to suggest people to take acloser look at the tiny shadows caused by the tiny elevations of the skin under light falling from the side! Unbelievable!

The general look and feel is a bit too "arranged" to me, but still it doesn't reach the poser's levels. Perhaps exactly because the toning/grain adds much authenticity/realism to the whole atmosphere. A bit of pity I find that the grain isn't stronger at the dark region of the top left. Also, some more focus on her left eye would (pressumably) make it even better.

Still a very expressive image!

Ciao,

Nick

Well I agree about the grain and though I did (see 'about section') add it . . . it seems to have significantly diminished on the upload . . . or downsizing.

Yes Doyle, that's the case when downsizing. The grain that was in the range of visible size priorly to downsizing gets also downsized sometimes so strongly that it is less visible then. Well, there has to be some limit of image soze, I know, but I wonder if somebody will find an algorithm some day that preserves the overall feel of the image in a better way than the present algorithms.

LoL! If only we could find somebody who had expertise in math! :P

Doyle I <~~~~~

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:89138} 10/19/2007
You do have such a person, Doyle! I am a mathematician. So, when do I receive my contact? ;-)

Now seriously, if you need something, anything that has to do with mathematics, just drop me a line. I'd be glad if I could help anyhow.

Cheers,

Nick

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 10/19/2007
I was just giving you a hard time Professor!! Contract? I was thinking 'donated' expertise! :)

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:89138} 10/21/2007
I see now that from the more economical point of view mathematics are rather the science of small numbers! ;-)

Jokes aside, lemme know when some "donation of expertise" is needed, and I'd be glad to help.

Cheers,

Nick

P.S.: But don't complain after the donation of expertise if the users say that this site becomes too abstract! ;-)
