About This is a photo of my fiance Robert with his Ibanez guitar. The poor darling is sick and he was good enough to pose through three sittings.

What i was trying to achieve with this photo was to keep his left side in shadow, but still be able to see his expression. My light source was our kitchen window with the shade drawn right down so it was only 20cm open.

I took these in Black and white and have only cropped slightly and levels.

Any comments on how i can improve shots like this would be apreciated.

A very nice portrait, Megan. It comes as a bit grainy on my screen (I'm not saying it's not good, just a note). If you don't want that noise/grain, perhaps you can reduce ISO and sit the camera on a tripod?

Megan Johnson   {K:1422} 9/9/2007
Danny,

I noticed the grain too, but it's only showed up once i put it on usefilm. However Thatnk you for the advice, i was using a tripod but i will try lowering the ISO.

Megan.

Megan. There is one way you could improve it. Buy Robert a new guitar. That would have him smiling even though he was feeling off colour. I like it. All the best. Keith

Keith,

No no no he doesn't need another guitar, this is his fourth although I'm sure he wouldn't say no to another one. Infact he wants to learn how to make them so soon I'll be living in a house full of them. lol. Thank you for your kind comment.

Hey there Megs, I think you have captured Robbo's Robbo-ness so well here, (easy for me to say 'cause I know him), but I think you have placed this in the perfect project.
The fact that he is holding an item so close to him, a personal part of Robbo, emphasizes this even more so.
Only pick I have, very small pick and only cause I am fussy...LOL, is to clone out the small white speck in the dark area under his arm...told you it was just a small pick!!!:) Also maybe burn his eyes a little, just to add some definition.
Otherwise, it's great, and I like that it has presented as grainy, I am a sucker for grain as you know.
cheers.....B

Hey Bek,

I did get rid of the white speck on the guitar and decided to leave it in because i lost the shape of the guitar by taking it away. As i said the grain was total accidental it came out when i put the photo on usefilm, not that i don't like it I think it looks good. Thank you for your comments.

Megsie.

Hey Bek,

Der just realised u werent talking about the reflection on the guitar, I found the white spot. lol.

Megs.

Was just thinking...you could also have Robby hold the 'pointy' bit of the guitar a little lower down, it looks as if he has something else in his hand the way he is holding it now. Also...LOL...I would get rid of the little hair on the very top of his head that is sticking up. the one right in the middle, the others are fine.

Very good B&W with interesting lighting and great tonal range. Well done my friend.

As a side note - why would anyone suggest buying him another guitar when he owns and IBANEZ????

Guy

J.J.

I imagine you can never have too many guitars. lol. Thank you for your kind comment.

Megan.
