About NO PS WORK--UnManipulated.

This photograph (2092) was shot at Discovery Park on 9 September 2007.

I have no idea what this caterpillar is or what it was doing. I don't believe I've ever seen one like this here (and I played with a lot of caterpillars growing up here).

Thanks for peeking.

Beautiful depth of field and composition. Great capture!

I don't know what kind it is either James. The image came out really nice though. I like that real tight DOF on this one. It kind of slows him down even more somehow. :)

Andre - Thank you. He was actually pretty fast (and huge) for a caterpillar.

marvelous shot James,
like the green against the desaturated background, how did you do it without PSing?
very good clarity,
best, mahassa

mahassa bahri   {K:10958} 10/2/2007
is it the real color of the ground?
well the grey is some special grey!
excellent shot anyway,
best, mahassa

Mojgan - Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

James Cook   {K:36725} 10/6/2007
Mahassa - Thanks. The background is exactly as it came out of the camera. If you are asking about the colors in the background, what you are seeing is called chromatic aberation. This is due to an imperfection in the lens or (more accurately) due to the way that light bends as it passes into and then out of the glass (lens). The different frequencies of light bend slightly differently and so land at spread locations. At least that's how I read it.

James Cook   {K:36725} 10/6/2007
Mahassa - The ground is very old concrete. There is stuff (moss and such) growing on it and dirt of course. The exposed parts are very smooth and shiney from so many years of wear. The odd angle of the sun and the shade from the surrounding trees gave it this wonderful feel. No PS necessary (just the way I like it).

mahassa bahri   {K:10958} 10/6/2007
thanks for the info, though I guess I didn't get it precisely,
cheers, mahassa

mahassa bahri   {K:10958} 10/6/2007
I see,
thanks again for the info,
wonderful shot,
best, mahassa

James Cook   {K:36725} 10/21/2007
Mahassa - Here is an article on chromatic aberration. It comes from color theory:

Oh many thanks dear James,
so kind of you,
best, mahassa

John Hatz   {K:143808} 11/24/2007
EXCELLENT! I like the focus here, using a wide aperture (wow...I though that is f/2.8) you make a nature's macro that is very closed to be an artwork abstract! cool result the colored worm agaist the grey ground!

James Cook   {K:36725} 11/24/2007
John - Thanks. The light was really unusual. The sun was getting low and I was under a canopy of just a few trees. So it's mostly ambient light from what was still a fairly bright sky. Very favorable lighting.
