strange shot.

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:89303} 10/9/2007
Well, it reminds me of images of Diane Arbus considering the guy himself! I assume that the city is *the* place for the interesting person, or even for that special kind of excentric person that makes an image strong.

I find the way you kept the surroundings darker very intriguing since this puts an additional spotlight on him. Which is complemented by the presence of countless details on hom, while the rest of the scene looks rather "easy".

Another great work!

Nick

Gianes Ma   {K:24606} 10/9/2007

Not quite sure what to make of this guy Avi, he looks a bit like a comic book superhero gone wrong. Can't resist this shot, especially given his surroundings.
Regards, Gary

Thanks very much Nick.. there were some unnecessary distractions in the photo, which I had to burn out to make my subject stand out as it has, now.

By the way, did you receive my last email ?

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/9/2007

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/9/2007
ohh.. u mean what I talk to Deb and Nilanjan ?? Ok, that's easy to share. To Nilanjan, I was saying, that I used the PS 'burn' tool. In the original image, there was a guy to the right of our man, and another sitting on the stairs. And then there were some bags behind the guys feet - all these I 'burnt' out ('jaliye' means 'burnt' !! LOL..)

Deb, on the other hand, was with me when I took this shot that day. In fact he was CLOSER to this guy. In fact, he even spoke to this guy. Here's Deb's shot:

http://www.usefilm.com/image/1355406.html

To Deb, I was saying therefore, while you were at it (that is shooting his picture) from the side, I did it from the front, a little distance away.

Hope it all fits in now !!

BIG HUG !
Avi

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/9/2007

Thank you VERY MUCH, Tycho !!!.. That is really very sweet of you !

Thanks, my dear Pablo !!

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:89303} 10/10/2007
Yes, Avi, but the burn-outs don't look like burn-outs - they do not "invade" the image. This is why the image retained its integrity and didn't evolve to some kind of patchwork.

I did receive your email, and I reply it today. It has been only a bit too busy here.

All the best,

Nick

vanessa shakesheff   {K:62845} 10/10/2007

Saeed Al Shamsi   {K:47535} 10/10/2007
Very good lighting and details.
Showing the columns really combine the dressing of this gentle man ,, seems as of a peaceful worrier :)
Superb
Saeed

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/11/2007
Yes, even I thought he looked like a warrior.. only thing missing is a sword :) :)

Thanks a lot, my friend !!

Bob Brins   {K:3690} 10/11/2007
I've seen this performer, he's very interesting. The photo works well with the rear column, strong but subordinated to the subject assertive stance.

Bethesda Fountain, in Central Park, is a magical place. It's been used in many films, from HAIR to Angels in America.

Bob

mahassa bahri   {K:10934} 10/11/2007
thanks for the info dear Avi,
that's very interesting,
best, mahassa

Yes Bob. Let me on to more such 'tips' on photo quirks in NYC. :)

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/12/2007
Always, Mahassa..

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/12/2007
It is an honour for me, Tap. :)

Bob Brins   {K:3690} 10/13/2007
You're doing very well following your own eye.

Bob

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/13/2007
:) thanks Bob. Hey, do you know that the Cooper&Hewitt museum of design has free entrance from Oct 14th to 20th ? Their annual award-winning designs are on display. Fridays they are open till 9 pm. I am planning to go there next Friday. Interested ?

John Loreaux   {K:85782} 10/17/2007
Excellent light and subject!! Very well taken!!A unique portrait! My Best............john

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/17/2007
Thank you, dear John !!!! :)

Eb Mueller   {K:22505} 10/18/2007
The framing is creative and background sufficiently out of focus to put the subject into relief. There is certain drama in the pose, eccentricity of subject contrasted with conservative architectural features.
Eb

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/18/2007
Thanks for such a wonderful and insightful critique, Eb ! Appreciate all of that.

Regards,
Avi

fotogr@vi     {K:50309} 10/20/2007
Well, the Cooper&Hewitt turned out to be a BIG disappointment.. they did not allow taking pictures.. :( :(

How did it go for you ??

Ursula Luschnig   {K:21809} 10/24/2007
Wow !!!! Gorgeous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
