Ayup! Mobile home! Who's going on holiday?

OK, Mr Pretentious is back in town. No 'nice capture' from this here wordsmith. I'm writing in English at the moment as writing in Italian makes me feel too sad. This is so haunting, Anna... I don't know how you find all these pained old buildings that ache with old age and loneliness, but I'm very glad you do. There is quite a series building here, one that is very, very impressive.

This (and the other photographs in the series) speaks to me in a nebulous way about memory and in particular, memories of home. Or more precisely, somewhere that used to be home. I get the strongest feeling that you sense the energy that once pervaded these forgotten places; that they aren't simply empty shells... that they house a whole host of things still. If one listens hard, perhaps one might hear the distant echo of old conversations, hushed whispers...

It's as if one's peering through a window at a place that one knows so well, and yet there is something that stops it from resonating with you as it once did. A sense of detachment, of somewhere slowly receding from the forefront of one's mind... like an old friend that you love but no longer see very often.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.

Thanks a lot Patrick!
You see in my photographs better than me. It's a real gift!

I could be in the next series of that programme 'Heroes' on TV... Patrick, the English recluse with the power to interpret photographs... hopefully they'll set the next series in Matera and I'll sign up.
