Hey Patrick,
I like this one very much. The solitude really drips of this shot. And such gorgeous light.....hmhm my compliments!!
Like the frame by the way too. If the sign had stood more off center it would have been a perfect shot.
Good critique hé :)
Have a nice evening,

Alain

Patrick Crowther   {K:13570} 10/30/2007
Thanks Alan, but I must disagree about the centrality of the sign... that is what drew me to the image in the first place. But we all have our own opinions!

Alain Mijngheer   {K:14460} 10/30/2007
....and thank God for that :)

Yes, all hail Argumentos, God of intellectual diversity...

I'm with Alain on this Patrick; I'd crop just the left hand view windows off
be well....txules

Patrick Crowther   {K:13570} 10/30/2007
Thanks for the comment (and all your recent comments), but I completely disagree about the crop. The centrality of the sign is the whole point of this image for me.

who knows Patrick, life is so diverse :)....txules

That stop sign was efficient because it seems like all life has really stopped here. Spooky image but beautiful in sense of geometry and tones.
Take care, Crow:-)
Why canīt I post this?? I havenīt used any bad words??

Annemette Rosenborg Eriksen   {K:55371} 10/30/2007
I wouldnīt crop anything here. The empty facade on both sides in combination with the dark windows add to the rich symbolism.

Belle forme geometriche.

I looked at the thumbnail and thought how the hell did he get an empty street in Italy then saw the location.. what a wonderful town.. loved Siena beautiful amphithetre of a sqaure.. nice place.. great pic as well

Patrick Crowther   {K:13570} 10/31/2007
Actually the truth is, Roger, that people were too embarrassed to be seen standing near me, such is my lack of style. Whole streets would empty in the blink of an eye...

Roger Skinner   {K:61856} 10/31/2007
u dont know how lucky u are.. I did some sampling.. one from Firenze

crowd

Patrick Crowther   {K:13570} 10/31/2007
No, I was joking. When I was in Firenze, I stood a few feet away from where you took this and sighed audibly at the crowds (I might have sworn audibly as well, I can't remember) and headed off down the dark alleyways again... my natural habitat.
