Annemette Rosenborg Eriksen   {K:55260} 10/31/2007
Stunning landscapephoto in all its simplicity. One lonely tree but what a shadow it casts as a symbol of how a single human can have a great impact on others if having the power to reach out. At least that is what it symbolizes to me:-)
Best wishes
Annemette

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:83087} 3/27/2008
Kiarang, the brilliant simplicity of this concept is only exceeded by its efficience! One tree, one shadow, snow (is it snow?) and heaven! The few actors build up such an scene here, that is real but under your composition starts getting similar to a scene of modern theater play. I'll mention the very important role of the shadow: It gives the plain of snow a direction and a location, as it is the only available hint for angle and perspective. The tree stands in a comprehensible distance exactly because of the shadow! It is only after that, that its connecting role between snow and heaven can be so tangible.

You see what I mean, it is "only a tree somewhere" many of the photoshopographers will say. But, hehe, the simple scene has been captured in such a way that the hidden "extravagance" has been visible! And this is a quintessence of photography. It is more how we capture than what we capture.

A very good observation and an even better shot! For me a minimalist BIP!

Nick

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 3/27/2008
Dear Nick;
Man of usefilm!
yes, it's snow on the montain of "sepidan"(which is a south mountain in iran).
again you had the best recognize for me.
i owe you!

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:83087} 3/28/2008
Hi Kiarang and thanks a lot for the info about the location!

Does Mt. Sepidan lie in the Zagros range? It must be a very isolated place and thus quite great for photo sessions.

Nick

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 3/28/2008
Dear my friend:
Nick!
yes, Sepidan mountains belong to a part of Zagros range. sepidan is a small city arround Shiraz( you know shiraz: it's a famus city in Iran ) Sepidan mountains have special atmosphere and weather. It makes winter sport fans from neighboring cities to gather in this city over the weekends. The hills of Zagross Mountains in this region have created a suitable space for different games and sports on their snow-covered slopes.
again thanks for all your comments and oponions.
you are a very special man!

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:83087} 3/29/2008
Hi Kiarang!

And thanks a lot for telling me and reminding me of all that! When I was studying in Germany, we had one of the best guys I ever met, Yadidi the patient, that directed and assisted us in organic chemisty experiments. His motto was: "We must be patient with all things", when we, beginners, got too nervous or disappointed for some reaction that took hours and even days to happen. He was from Shiraz and he talked to us quite often about the place around Sepidan. I found exactly that atmosphere of which you talked so... pure! It looked like applied minimalism to me. Just the necessary and nothing more. I don't know any better words for that.

Now, I searched in the web for a good geological map of Iran, and with your help I found Shiraz, I found Zagros, and more than that: I found the imaginary journey in my mind again, that I made when I was studying under patient Yadidi's direction and assistance. I thought at that time of walking from Kerman to the desert of Lut, then to the desert of Kavir, then to Ghom, and over Zagros to Isfahan, and the to Shiraz! And Yadidi never missed to wake me up and bring me back to the reality of that chemical reaction that at last started going! "Hey Nick! Wake up!!!" ;-)

I'll really have to do that walk some day! And be it only for just some few images that show the place, and above all the good people there that still have two arms, two legs, and much the same everyday problems like we all do - quite contrary to the typical diplomatical serenades on tv-news of some certain countries! ;-)

Thanks heavens we have Kiarang and many more poeple here for such images that contribute quite a lot to the slow generation of a much more uniting and much less theatening picture of the world in our minds, and especially of all "the other guys", while the tv-news keep on telling us that those "other guys" are always responsible for all bad things. But the problem is that they are no more "other guys" once you met them. Then they have names too! ;-)

But we have to be patient with things, I guess.

See you!

Nick

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 3/29/2008
