Beatiful shot Avi. I really like it and think a B&W would also be great. Excellent work! Congrats.

Street capture as I like Avi.. This one is nicely seen and framed with these stairs.
Compliment

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:98829} 11/7/2007
Most of the time, when I see similar images of people sitting somewhere, the composition is quite "half". But not here!

Avi demonstrates how the main actor must be put into a scene in order for the image to be not only a capture of a moment, but also a good capture of a moment. Where others just take the given person into the view finder and shoot, Avi also considered the given situation, the stairs, the light distribution, geometry, and even a bit of symbolic as the carved word "America" shows. This way the woman is not only sitting somewhere with no further interest whatsoever! she is sitting at the end of the diagonal line of the stairs and her position marks up - guess what? - the rule of thirds.

Behind her, on the stone with that pure light, the word "America" as she is reading - or is that typing on her mobile? Be it whatever is might be, she is there but not really. The concentration that is visible due to the clarity of the image, is also a small moment of isolation. Suggestive thinking again - She sits in the shadows while the light falls on that symbol - glory that doesn't reach the human and where the heck is the empire when it comes to individuals with their own fates.. It looks as if empires wouldn't care that much for real existing persons, despite the fact that they are built upon and through them.

One could sit and look for hours!

Oops, in my enthusiasm I forgot to say... a bit of pixelation on the contour of her right leg. I see that so often here and I guess that, as many people say, it is the result of auto-downsizing.

Avi, do you think that downsizing, say, with PS priorly to uploading could eliminate the problem? Anybody else, ideas out there?

I'll have to try that out.

Nick

nice street picture. regards.

fotogr@vi     {K:55291} 11/7/2007
Thanks Nick for the wonderful critique. As for the pixelation, I DO downsize prior to uplaod.. in this case, I am not sure what happened.. may have been due to a little sharpening I did.

Cheers !

fotogr@vi     {K:55291} 11/7/2007
thanks :) :)

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:98829} 11/8/2007
So you do that yourself, Avi.. I had to know that without asking ;-) I think I'll have to adopt your method since I have often notice problems by the downsizing that UF carries out automatically. I guess that there had to be found some average here between preserving quality and having a good responce time for the user.

As about sharpening, well yes, that could have also been. A dream of mine is to find some sharpening algorithm that works perfectly, but of course as we all know the hungry dreams of bread! ;-)

Cheers,

Nick

absynthius .   {K:17346} 11/8/2007
I like it a lot :); tones, composition, elements of the setting the perspective above all,
regards,
V.

fotogr@vi     {K:55291} 11/9/2007
Yes Nick, I usually downsize @200 pixels at a time, with 'Bicubic Sharper' option checked on. As for sharpeneing, well, yes, DEFINITELY such an algo would help !!! :)

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:179567} 11/9/2007
fantastic.. also in the simplicity compositive!
cheers
roby

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:98829} 11/9/2007
So let's tell some mathematicians around that there are much more interesting things than finding yet another solution for some system of field equations for the universe, eh?

Such an algorithm would be simple plain wow!

Nick

fotogr@vi     {K:55291} 11/9/2007
Thanks very much, dear Roby !!!
