About Gates to the garden

Past the ivy-covered windows of
The Angel
Down Athenaeum Lane to the cathedral
Through the churchyard I wandered
Sat for a spell there and I pondered
My back to the gates of the garden

Fugitive fathers, sickly infants, decent mothers
Runaways and suicidal lovers
Assorted boxes of ordinary bones
Of aborted plans and sudden shattered hopes
In unlucky rows, up to the gates of the garden

Won't you meet me at the gates
To the garden

Beneath the creeping shadow of the tower
The bell from St. Edmunds informs me of the hour
I turn to find you waiting there for me
In sunlight and I see the way that you breathe
Alive and leaning on the gates of the garden

Leave these ancient places to the angels
Let the saints attend to their keeping of the cathedrals
And leave the dead beneath the ground so cold
For God is in this hand that I hold
As we open up the gates of the garden

Won't you meet me at the gates
To the garden

Paolo Barthelemy   {K:24873} 11/12/2007
Great mood of mistery, scare and lonelyness. The trees seem to be a moving gate that grabs you before you can reach the end of the path. This is my personal interpretation, of course.
Best regards, Paolo

absynthius .   {K:17146} 11/12/2007
and i thank you for your interpretation,
take care Paolo,
V.

Astonishing shot dude.

Great perspective, great tones and great atmosphere, very mysterious and a bit scary at the same time.

Definitely a 7

Gary Hill   {K:33529} 11/12/2007
An atmosphere of bleakness and desolation made all the better by the old-fashioned look. Where is the poem from, Visar?
Regards, Gary

absynthius .   {K:17146} 11/12/2007
Hey Gary, like always i have a disc full of Nick Cave songs, all of his, and i try to do something similar with the mood of the songs each time i shoot, and he's an inspiration for me as he's not only a great great singer but also a lyric writer and just writer/ philosopher as far as i'm concerned!
thanks for the comment,
V.

John Hatz   {K:143808} 11/12/2007
PERFECT shot Visar, the fog, the greyscale and the grainy texture helps a lot here and makes the shot very spooky with the ''naked'' brunches from leafs, the result is really great for me! Excellent!

absynthius .   {K:17146} 11/12/2007
thanks Wayne, i apprichiate that,
V.

As usual my friend you have a whole story behind your photo. it is so simple & minimalistic but at the same time there is so much more to interpret. great job. Love the framing too.

Oh my dear visar
you made a Specific shot...
That with my psyche is very suitable...

Michele Carlsen   {K:133481} 11/14/2007
Very beautiful poem in your 'about' dear V. It goes well with the image and title...At first it looked a bit spooky but after reading the poetry I see it differently now -- The depth and foggy distance are very intriqueing - very well done V.
Cheers,
Michele~

absynthius .   {K:17146} 11/15/2007
so glad to hear and know that i'm not the only one around to relate with these shots dear Afsenah,
thanks for the comment,
V.

absynthius .   {K:17146} 11/15/2007
dear Michele,
you know there's this tendency of people to interprete things they think they clearly see and in fact they know nothing about it!
I, personally, am fully aware that we as human being are to always be in some sort of onward motion, and while in that process, i also know that there's a lot of unpredictibility that lies behind- something that you practically cannot see, but rather just imagine-- and all you imagine is that that thing that lies ahead of you is different from that you are in. And to me that is enough!
thanks for the comment, and with the poem i wanted to make a clearer idea of what i intend to bring forth with my image-- and there's nothing spoody about it as far as i am concerned- but a real thing that happens in our everyday life that we have to take things that are mysterious and go through them in order to know and taste bits of it!
take care,
V.

Fabrice Gourbilleau   {K:53288} 11/17/2007

V.

Yoshiyuki Tanaka   {K:13580} 12/7/2007
A trip into the past of pains? Or a trip into the furure of despair? Very well achieved the moody look! It goes well with the lyrics!

Giuliano Guarnieri   {K:34463} 12/17/2007
:) very similar subject ;)

Tycho Posthumus   {K:249} 1/14/2008
I really like this kind of mysterical pictures and your shot is also a good one, but why so much noise?. I can understand that it makes the image look extra mystic but this is a bit too much. Beautiful shot tho'.

All good,
Tycho.

absynthius .   {K:17146} 4/29/2008
OK, my intention was not to make it look extramystic as the scene intself already was. only mystic is cool enough ;).

it is obvious that i did not measure the light at the proper spot, but as if i measured it somewhere in the darkened areas, i would have definitely lose the details on the branches due to overexposure.
So when i got back home and processed the shot, i enlightened the too dark areas to get this result- and it produced some sort of noise which i did not really like- consequently, i added a little film grain to produce this image.

I apprichiate your close observation Tycho, and i wish i got more often this kind of scrutinisation!

cheers,
v.
