Here are some suggestions, Wayne:
- limit (or blur) the background elements, so it's ALL about your subject. Subject could be her blouse, her pants, or her shades. It should be evident at first glance what is the subject.
- Don't place your subject dead center, but to one side or another. In this shot, since she's looking up and left, I would crop out some of the space to her right.

Thanks for the help Paul! I was wondering if you would catch this one. Ok, here is the crop with only minimal blur to the trees behind the deck. I really like the crop suggestion. It brings so much more to the image. Now for isolating the "subject" There is more detail in the jeans than anything else, as the photographer here :) was paying a little more attention to exposure than DOF. The light was fading super fast. But, since the jeans are covered by the blouse a bit??? ok I'll wait for your suggestion on that one. Should I blur out the detail on the deck or is that a bad idea? Thanks for the advise!

As a rule, Wayne, avoid blurring foreground elements. I think this is an improvement, but you could also raise the contrast, since the white sky's not gonna get any whiter, but it can help her pop a bit more.

Excellent portrait Wayne, the style is great here, so the point you put your model at the corner of that balcony, the woods adds more classic mood here so the trees at the background (original, I like the fashion photos out of a room...original...why not!!!) I don't care about the sky's overexposure because here the main target is the model and not the landscape, absolutely excellent job...
