About Tangara dowii. #187
Savegre Hotel
I just got back from a trip to Costa Rica. and this is the first shot of many to come.
I hope you'll like them.

This photo is for Adam Blazczak, who was very kind and let me borrow his 580EX. He also taught me how to use manual mode and shot with flash.
The flash, the braket and the better beamer were excellent for this trip.

Tanagers are a group of unusually colorful, small, perching birds. Tanager, like the word toucan, comes from the Topi Indian language of Brazil. The diverse subfamily Thraupinae (part of the huge family Emberizidae, order Passeriformes) consists of 242 species of tanagers, euphonias, chlorophonias, honeycreepers, dacnis, conebills, and flowerpiercers.
Though 4 tanager species migrate to North America to breed, the remainder are all confined to the Neotropics.

Taken from a Neotropical Companion by John Kricher, 1997.

BTW, this species is endemic from Cordillera de Tilaran to W Panama.

Hi Bill.
Costa Rica was awesome.
I got over 30 species of birds, and that wasn't a birding trip, it was a family vacation to take my little Sophia to meet the rest of the family.
I wish I had more time but eight days per year still great.
Regards.
