About No sunset filters, no polarizor, no neutral density grads... just lens to film. While I have no problems whatsoever using any or all of these filters to capture an image, I can also appreciate a scene untouched. I used a tripod and cable release for this 25 second or so exposure. Was so dark out I just took everything off the lens. Just goes to show the camera can see things that we cannot...

Fantastic. How'd you know which shutter speed to use? Or did you take multiple shots? You can't beat film for long exposures.

Fantastic work Vincent! Very nice composition and DOF.

Although I like working in the digital lab, I can still appreciate great techniques such as the ones you used here...which led to your camera to capture something that perhaps was already visible in your the mind :) Regards.

Very nice night shot, not surprising you didn't use filters, that is to be expected with something like this shot. great.

Excellent work. Looks like tungsten film to me. Excellent composition and wonderful exposure. Yes filters are nice, but after the sun goes down some of the best photos are the ones without any filters and untouched in photoshop.

Outstanding job, 7++ Mike

Thanks for the comments.

"How'd you know which shutter speed to use? Or did you take multiple shots?"

**** Basically this was at the very end of my shoot. I was tired and more or less just trying to finish up a roll. I did take a few like this and was almost stunned by how well they turned out. The lighting was not near this good through my viewfinder. Like I said, the camera can see, and film can capture much more than what the naked eye sees. This image is proof for me.

"You can't beat film for long exposures."

**** True in the past, IMO. But the digital cameras out there today are far better than anything prior when it comes to noise. I still find with darker scenes, even with film, noise (or in the case with film, GRAIN) can still be an issue.

I just prefer the natural feel that comes with working with film today. Seems more organic-like. Though I believe its days are indeed numbered. Thanks again for all of your comments.

All the best,
Vince

Aloha fellow Hawaii photog! Thanks for your compliments on my photo. This one of yours is great! It makes me feel a sense of calm. Beautiful! It's so great what cameras can pick up that we are unable to see with the naked eye. :)
