It`s a very difficult world but you seemed to get the hang of it by this lovely image.The control of the whites is very nicely done.When you have done more inflight shooting
I will pass on some tips but not now as it might overwhelm you.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.. not today my friend, yes passed just today :):):):) because this is my first photo for a bird in the sky..It's realy very difficult world .. Sure It's VERY DIFFICULT, but very exciting...
Robbie, how you set the lens, focus AF, or M, when you want to shot a movement bird?

That was super fast!!
Tips for shooting birds as used by me.
Continiuos focus,matrix metering,Iso 400.
If bird has whites and sunny use -.3 to -.7 ev compensation.If very overcast use +ev.[the same applies for landscape with clouds]
Use Aperture Priority about 1 to 2 steps down
depending on the sharpness of the lens[my 300/4
I can shoot wide open at f4 but my Tokina 80-400
at f8 and push up the ISO]
Shoot raw Picasa is capable of opening Raw and it`s free.

Wonderful!!. you've stopped the motion inflight.. wonderful feeling of soaring up in the air, I like the dynamic diagonal composition..
well done Parehan, I've not captured any bird this close in flight. I think this is not very easy on he neck..:)

I used Photolmpact 12, and Neat..But frankly, I am afraid from the sharpening..!!
Some times I used, but usualy I am afraid loseing the softness from my images, and turned into a form of harsh scene...

Congratulations on both your first in flight shot and your new camera. When i look at peoples pics, i always look past what camera took them. In saying that, you will be over the moon at the results you will get now. I agree with what Robert suggested to you. Very good advice. Depends on what sought of light you have as far as the iso goes though. Both your camera and my own are quite capable of taking grain free pics at 800 iso but i have taken a lot of my in flight pics at 100 and 200 iso. A use film member, Ann Van Breeman has sthe same camera as yours and she has taken lots of in flight shot as well. Check hers out. All the best Parehan. Keith

Excellent tight frame Parehan and with very good quality too... so the bird must be very closed to you...even with 300mm and that makes the photo very difficult however you 'freeze' the bird very nicely!
