About The original was a slide 'sandwich'...two slides put together then duplicated into one. I converted to monochrome, added some grain and blur effects.

Go to this link on You Tube for a beautiful video of the Symphonic Poem by Albert Ketelby titled "In a Monastery Garden".(You can copy and paste into your browser.)
Enjoy!:)

Wow Shirley, what struck me about your composition is the likeness to the early daguerreotype photographs where the images exhibited marked depth (of field), wonderful work, what a story. I am off to read the poem. Congratulations on an outstanding piece of work. cheers, david.

Armando Giambolini   {K:3386} 2/4/2008
This photo fascinates me and impresses at the same time.
It has a position of mystery. It seems a garden lived by a ghost or an angel.
This is an amazing photo.I never saw this way of composition.

Congrats

armando

Wonderful monochromatic, the double slide make it look like it was through a big window because of the grids... Unusual to see their clothing in white and a female at that, mysterious...
A mystery Shirley..
Greay shot!

Thank you so very much, dear Biljana!:)

Annemette Rosenborg Eriksen   {K:55260} 2/4/2008
Beautiful work once more, dear Shirley:-) Peaceful. The only thing that bothers me is that the woman looks very little like a nun. I think it would be more convincing if her hair was in the back...ehrm hard to explain in English*LOL* I hope you understand me:-)
Take care
Annemette

A. W. Osnafotos   {K:5551} 2/4/2008

Luis  Steinberg    {K:16673} 2/4/2008
Good atmosphere, really suggestive and the best intention.- I know and you know what I mean...the message also is important.- Although the technical resolution of the image is not good example is the three (is a three before the woman...? ) it must be darker, and also the image is in the "center" the woman must be in the right.- The tones of the highlights are blocked with low details in the clouths ...

But at least is YOUR IMAGE and is well...if you like it? It's my sincerely honest opinion.-
Kiss.- LUIS

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 2/5/2008
Thank you, dear Annemette! She doesn't necessarily have to be a nun...which, of course, she wasn't. Your English is perfect, my dear. But the look of this just seemed to fit the title, and reminded me of this favorite piece of music.:)

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 2/5/2008
Thank you so very much, dear Andre'! Here it is in B&W...

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 2/5/2008
Thank you for your kind and honest comments, my dearest Luis. Yes, that is the trunk of the grapevine beside her...she is in front of a grape arbor. I did think of cropping, but would have lost the nicely balanced 'window' framing on one side. Remember, this was created from an old 'sandwich' of two slides.:)

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 2/5/2008
Thank you so very much, Nessa, and you're welcome!:)

Mystic and dreamy... What a great image dear Shirley, I love the timeless mood; it can represent the innocence of Franciscan times or a "modern" Carmelite retreat.

Masterly conceived and produced!

Well done!

Eb Mueller   {K:22087} 2/7/2008
Neat composite of so many elements, Shirley! The dark earth tones, I think, add to the restful, contemplative theme. Of course the figure catches attention immediately, due to its brightness and statuesque quality. I like the point of view through the window!

Sylvia Marriott   {K:12749} 2/9/2008
Hi Shirley,
I like the composition very much indeed, the way the window 'frames' the mysterious figure, the earthy sepia tones and the lighting. The air of mystery leads one to invent your own story about the woman, is she in retreat or is it a daring tryst in the seclusion of the garden? A lovely image, very pleasing to the eye.

Hugs
Sylvia

Dave Arnold   {K:54676} 2/11/2008
Hmm, interesting that you left the "monk" to bleed through the wooden window frame. Understand it was a sandwich so maybe that was your intent... Dreamscape-like creation, on the other hand....

Best wishes,
Dave

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 2/11/2008
Didn't have any choice with the sandwich. Thank you for your interesting comment, Dave.:)

Dave Arnold   {K:54676} 2/11/2008
I kind of figured that it was a result of the sandwich, I wonder how easy it would have been to clone in the texture of the other portions of the wood frame???

Dave

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 2/11/2008
I don't know...didn't actually think of it, Dave.:)

This photo really captures my imagiation and emotions. Has an element of (romantic) mystery to it that causes to stop and contemplate what's going. Of course, whatever I read into it says more about me than the picture :)

Thank you so very much for the great comments, David!:)
