About There 3 species of Scoters in North America (Surf Scoter, Black Scoter). The White-winged is the largest ot the trio. They are very similar in coloration, build and habits.

Hi Joe,
Yes these guys are very unusual.
This is the first time that I see one of them.
They are erratic and uncommon winter visitors from October to May.
