Very well seen and captured, Linda! I like the lighting on the flower itself, and in particular the shadows of the pistil and stamen caught on the petals. Very nice colours and dof here, too.

In its essence as a macro it is just about perfect, Linda! But it doesn't come even close to "Pretty in blue" and to tell you the truth I don't habe a single clue why it doesn't. Focus OK, lighting OK, DoF OK, but still... What is so dofferent here? Perhaps the somewhat lower contrast of the flower against its background?
Good wrok, really, but what does the other one have that this is lacking?

Certainly, Linda! And even the beauty in the eye of the beholder will vary from time to time.
Perhaps also some "getting used to" is involved. When the first black people were "discovered" the main stream was that they are less "beautiful" than the white people. Nowadays nobody thinks so, thanks heavens for that. We had the time to expand our collective mind into the realms of other kinds of beauty. Following this we might eventually come to the limitless expansion, which in its main essence accepts anything as "beautiful" or "ugly". Under this premise there is no real defined beauty - just a personal impression, as you say.
