This light house was first illuminated in 1875. In 1949 two earthquakes damaged the lantern room. The upper portion of the tower was removed reducing the height of the tower to 74 feet from its original 115-foot height The Ice Plant that is part of the landscape turns a bright orange color after a cold winter.
