I thought at first that an exposure correction would be needed here, Kiarang, for getting the contours of the birds and the pole a bit stronger. Or perhaps a stronger contrast. But everything I tried in PS didn't make it better. This is a very difficult image to comment on, much like a statement that can be proved to be unprovable. It magnetizes and makes the spectator think that it could be strongly improved, until the question arises of *how* it could be improved. And then there seem to be no anwer at all. Strange one!

But perhaps it es exactly this kind of strangeness that makes it? The "milky" appearance? The flowing contrasts? I don't know! Quite a hard exercise that you gave us here!

Nick

fotogr@vi     {K:48591} 4/4/2008
I can't believe that at 200ISO you got so much grains.

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 4/4/2008
Hello Nick and welcome to all your thoughts and oponions.
this kind of soft exposure and midtones is exactly intentional and it's what at this time ( perioud of life ) or (age) i interest to it.
this is a plan in continue of my "seagull" photographs, in this series i follow a very soft contrast, a very simple events, a documentary catching and all simple elements which can makes a photo.
i don't know if i was success!

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 4/4/2008

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 4/4/2008
Hello Avi.
the iso(as you see in exif information of the file) is 200.
i used it for have better sepration of the 3 elements in the empty sky and better quality.
but the grains have added in photoshop cs2 for enhancing the feel!

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 4/4/2008
Hearty thanks Neda.

fotogr@vi     {K:48591} 4/4/2008
oh, now I get it.. the grains you added. That explains it :)

Have a nice weekend my friend.

fotogr@vi     {K:48591} 4/4/2008
Tell me one more thing Kiarang, do you usually shoot in 200 ISO (I am asking because I do so), or do you change it according to light conidtions ?

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 4/5/2008
Thank you for very important question Avi!
yes,
using less i.s.o helps to have better exposure, harder( but useful ) light controlling and more details( and so:texture ) in the capture.

Irena - Marta   {K:1002} 4/5/2008
light... and perfect...

regards,
i-m.

fotogr@vi     {K:48591} 4/5/2008
Yes, but I was asking you what YOU usually use. Do you usually use 200, or you change it as per light conditions. I usually keep it at 200 (since I have read that at 200, you get better exposure, without too much grains). But sometimes, when I am shooting in really low light conditions, I use higher ISOs to get the details. I do not use a tripod, because, as you might have noticed, I do a lot of street photography and candids, where I don't get the time to set up.

I even use my 50 mm/1.8 aperture at low light conidtions to get better exposure sometimes. Do you have any other suggestions ?

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:83087} 4/5/2008
It is undoubtfully a success of what you intent to do, Kiarang! But not only this! It is a very interesting project too, since you transfer the highkey-ish look from the studio to the outside, and so I wonder what it could look like, to take for example a street, or a city this way. I start developing a big interest for that, and I think that I'll try it soon!

Thanks a lot for the idea!

Nick

Hussam AL_ Khoder   {K:51019} 4/8/2008
Very well captured!
Bravo

Kiarang Alaei   {K:47971} 4/8/2008
Yes:
sure it's.
less sensitivity helps photographer to reach to the more details, more sepration and more quality in textures and large size of printing.
in low light using less focal lengh( with ignoring it's perspective distraction Or editing perspective in software) can be also useful.
thanks for disscuss dear AVI!

Shirley D. Cross   {K:138496} 4/8/2008
You're welcome, dear Kiarang!:)

fotogr@vi     {K:48591} 4/9/2008
Another factor : I have been shooting in JPEG mode all this time. Just last few days, I started to shoot in RAW, and can see the difference in details rightaway:
