It's EXCELLENT as usual dear 'King of Cool' .... I am not familiar with these effects much BUT I like them - I think it works really well on this eagle - especially on the beak. What can I say -
I Love it !

Regards,
Michele~:)

ohhhhh BTW I can see everyone is busy at work today - lol!!!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/10/2008
LoL! Oh yeah . . . I am . . . ummmm . . . sorta'! The fractalius is a mathematical thing that I had gotten from another UF Friend. The lengthy step by step process sent to me a year or so ago was very difficult . . . but a new plug-in for CS3 seems to have just come out and simplified it.

Doyle I <~~~~~

Steve Aronoff   {K:21276} 4/10/2008
This is an amazing effect, Doyle. It makes me think of that human body exhibit that's been making the rounds of major cities.
Very nice!
Steve

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/11/2008
Thanks Keith and you're right . . . it needs a dark BG and an unusual subject . . . certainly NOT routine.

Thanks Steve . . . very different. :)

I don't like this particular effect. I saw Peter (de Ryke) try it a bit, but didn't like it then also. my honest opinion Doyle.

best,
Avi

Jen van Wijn   {K:18243} 4/11/2008
Wowwww...this is outstanding, like you see the vanes of the eagle, didnt know there was such possibility on CS3, just wonderful dear Doyle!! Lightning and structure, all clear and crispy, into my fav.>> :) xxJen

Shirley D. Cross   {K:140542} 4/11/2008
I do love the Fractalius effect...so interesting, dear Doyle.:)

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/11/2008
Thanks for the honest opinion Avi! This is more art than photography (though it combines the two) and it was opinions that I was seeking. I DO understand why a photographer might think less of it. :)

Doyle I <~~~~~

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/11/2008
Thanks very much Dear Jen . . . it's a unique effect and If you're interested in persuing it . . . simply google fractilius . . . :)

My new word for the day, FRACTALIUS... I don't know how you do it, I have seen something like flames using this method also here at UF, but this has something different. The feather looks as if they are from an unhealthy bird. you know when they're not fluffy anymore. The eyes lost it's life.. maybe I'm looking at it differently or am looking for something real, like the way you present your birds.. : )
looking at it differently.. It looks like an electrified eagle, with powers like in the fantasy comic books.
thats my two ways of looking at this work Doyle..
regards..

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/11/2008
Thanks Bobot . . . very much. You bring up an interesting thought which I need to think on. Perhaps if I layered the Eagle and erased the fractalius layer for . . . say . . . JUST the eye! Hmmmmm. As to the fluffy feather issue . . . width and strengths of lines are variable . . . I selected this for the faux 'see through' effect and the electric, neon look.

Totally appreciate the comment!

Doyle I <~~~~~

Strange, but it does have a beauty, Doyle!

AJ Miller   {K:44211} 4/11/2008
Oh, what HAVE you done to him? He looks electric!

AJ

AJ Miller   {K:44211} 4/11/2008
PS. (excuse the pun), but I've just installed PS (as in PhotoShop) as a trial, and am shocked and horrified by how bloated it is. Seems like there's loads of stuff I really don't need, and nothing to add to what I already do with RawShooter and PSP9. I'll persevere for a few days, but it's going to take some convincing not to uninstall it. Any killer reason to convince me?

AJ

Shirley D. Cross   {K:140542} 4/11/2008
You're welcome, dear Doyle.:)

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/12/2008
I'm on a DEMO version myself and couldn't agree more John . . . probably should ask someone else! I don't even use RawShooter! I'll keep looking too though . . . this is Day #2.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

AJ Miller   {K:44211} 4/12/2008
What's more, RawShooter was bought by Adobe and killed off in (sorry, that should read "incorporated into") PhotoShop...

AJ

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/12/2008
Dinosaurs like us just don't change with the times my friend! I don't need . . . and really don't appreciate . . . bells and whistles . . . or I'd tape 'em on my computer myself! :P

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

AJ Miller   {K:44211} 4/12/2008
I'm with you all the way, Doyle, and proud to be a dinosaur. I've been out shooting today and was "looking forward" (ahem) to processing in PS. Well, it took so long just to load that I was already enjoying the fruits of my day's work on another machine running RawShooter. What also struck me, having been playing with PS yesterday, was how much of RS has been incorporated into the new PS. Maybe the dinosaur's knew what they were doing?

Hmmmm?

Robin Wickenkamp   {K:16356} 4/13/2008
Hmmmm, interesting....

the symbol of our nation...fractured (origin of fractal= from Fr., from L. fractus "broken," pp. of frangere "to break")...deep, very deep. Or am I reading more into this than intended??? ;)

Cool effect Doyle...liked it on Peter's images, like it here too, but I tend to agree with Bobot on the eye issue...otherwise, you've got a winner my friend!

Take care...R

Robert Kilgore   {K:1526} 4/14/2008
This image didn’t have instant appeal for me. It looks too plastic. But I agree that this eagle is ‘electric’. And agree that this photo is art. Nice shot Doyle!

Ken  Phenicie Jr.   {K:2922} 4/20/2008
Very interesting and beautiful, I like it allot but for some reason I want to see it move as an animation of some sort. 7

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/20/2008
Hi Robin!
Deep? Moi? You seem to know me well. ;)

I haven't seen Peter's images. I also agree with Bobot.

Thanks Robert. I appreciate the honesty!

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 4/20/2008
Thanks Ken . . . while I CAN animate a series shot . . . I don't do so. It's just not something that's interested me. :)

Dani Kimel   {K:1386} 4/26/2008
Hi Doyle!
Stunning result from the fractalius effect!
It helped you had a gorgeous photo to begin with.
I dont think it could possibly have turned out any better.
-D

Joggie van Staden   {K:41251} 4/30/2008
Hi Doyle - this image was made for that filter - great effect! The type of image to use in modern adverts etc. I like the untreated one too (a bit soft on the head plumage though). This one rocks though!
Joggie

Doyle D. Chastain   {K:99493} 5/3/2008
Thanks Dani . . . it seems to be a much better effect with a dark BG!

Still standing? Sound like more of the alking wounded. We got out yesterday for the first time in...umm...for-freaking-ever. Marlyce is recovering (and well) from surgery and my father was found to be terminal the same day she went in so I've had my hands full. She's unable to contribute around the house so dishes (say hello to paper plates and plastic utensils), cleaning, laundry, etc....the birds and my regular job are all on the plate. The biggest job is keeping her seated. We chose the aquarium because of free wheelchair use but she opted not to use one (shocker)...but it was good to get out and she's free to 'kick it' all Sunday. Honestly, all-in-all, we're doing well.
