I purposefully did not include any of the other parts of the swing apparatus, so that the image would be as close as possible to the one I took a couple of months ago in the winter. Title "Waiting" I'm glad you like it!

Hi Andre,
Looks like the new camera is working fine! It still looks chilly, but the kids prove it is warmer. It would have been nice to have had a shot without the kids to compare to your previous post.
That's why I carry a baseball bat....not just for use as a monopod...

I'm pretty happy with the results today. There is a little bit of a learning curve, but quite a pleasant one. Everything seems to be working the way it is supposed to.
I don't need a bat... I bring my wife along to scare the kids away :)

A very very good continuation of "Waiting", Andre, and I had this idea right away without reading your about first! It really makes itself noticeable by carrying the same mood but on a different time of the year.
Waht I find so remarkable here is that despite the presence of the kids the mood remained. It is still waiting, like when gazing out and wating to see that something is arriving. There is such a kind of silent nostalgy for me on this image. And now I think that I see that clearer on the other one too. On this one you made the step of introducing persons that seem to act as "extensions" of the view/impression of the photographer himself, if I may mention the parallels that I see when I think of you gazing out, and the kids gazing out to the same direction. That scateboard at the bottom right seems to fit very well too - it simply looks as "abandoned" as the rest of the image does.
Another parallel which I find so nice is that you kept the geometry essentially the same, despite the presence of the kids. So the continuity is strong. Perhaps we could expect some more of this scene - small series over the year?
Purely technically I don't know why it looks so pleasantly soft to me. The details are there, all of them. Still when I go from the details to the composition as a whole then something strange happens that makes it looking suitably soft to me. I don't know what the reason could be. But I think that here we see that the whole can be way way more than merely the straight sum of its parts.

I had thought about coming back to this place and stand in exactly the same area during different seasons. I wondered at first if the image might have been better if I had waited till I got some kid's faces in the image. But, I think this works better for this one for exactly the reason you say. They are also gazing out into the lake, giving the impression of still "waiting" or day dreaming. I will go back again in a few months when the temperatures are higher and the beach is crowded, for a different mood.

Yep! And I think that this idea is the best and the mist "natural", Andre! Just to see what the the depicted persons ot the photographer are gazing out for. It brings a very close feel of the scene this way. And as such it doesn't need any additional "symbolic overload", as I say perhaos too often in this forum. I mean, is there anything else than can convey such a direct feel of the scene to me? I think not!

It's good to see you back. I'm glad you haven't left us for good. :)
This one was my first post with the new camera. I went back to the same place I took an image of these swings earlier in the winter (the swings were empty at the time). My plan is to get four seasons out of them. I liked this image a lot personally, because of the relaxed, dreamy mood.
Lately, I have been doing a lot of "straight" wildlife and florals. mostly because I'm practicing with the camera and some old lenses. So, you will have to excuse me if a lot of the latest images look a bit like "Hallmark" greeting cards. :) Well, maybe not quite like that.
