About Another shot from the Yellowstone workshop. I really liked how this lone tree looked with the mist from the hot springs in the background. I made the comment to Tom Bol that I thought my camera had set it self to B&W because everything looked so monochromatic - of course that camera was happily shooting in color - it was just that the landscape was quite monochromatic. I did convert this shot to B&W in PS.

The exposure information listed above is correct.

And it was ansolutely not necessary to convert this to B&W, Jim! It is as B&W as it takes right "out of the box"! And all the sharp details and good contrasts of contours of the main subject against the bacjground do define the tree in a vast, infinite white space. The additional background greys on the right contradict somewhat the generally strong idea and capture of the solitary view. Perhaps a capture from a differnt point couls eliminate them? (Which I also know is not always possible.)

A very good approach for a pure view of the subject and only the subject.

I like the almost mysterious feeling this photo creates with the background fading into mist. Del.

Hi Jim!

Again! I think it can't get any better. It's like an ink drawing. Excellent!

Regards!

Perfect postcard material Jim! Great work!

I like this photo a lot. Looks like it would be quite striking with a wide double white mat set in a satin black frame to set it all off.
If it were possible financially, I think a workshop at Yellowstone would be a lot of fun and educational too.
I don't shoot digital, but I love the advantage you have of having a true record of the camera settings. Older I get, the more I forget. ;)
