About It was an overcast day and I'd pushed the ISO up. All the same, a bit surprised to see I'd taken this at 1/1000. Guess there must have been a break in the clouds. So, apart from that, serious critiques are welcome!

Good one, AJ.. almost an abstract. The subdued B&W tones are pleasing.. I wonder how this shot would look on a brilliant sunny day !

cheers

This would be a good one for a jig saw puzzle AJ;)) I used to make the big ones of 2000/3000 and 4000 pieces...still got them, maybe for the old days;)))
Such a wonderful town, beautiful image of all these white houses..how did the colour one come out, this one is just perfect!

Good night, xxJen

AJ Miller   {K:44247} 4/29/2008
Thanks Jen. It is a wonderful town in terms of being picturesque, but perhaps a little lacking in life and activity! The colour version is very subdued and the colour adds nothing to the image - this HAS to be B&W...

Thanks Avi - I have a feeling this shot might actually be easier on an overcast day!

Thanks Mehul. You're right, no problem of noise at ISO 800. It might creep in at higher ISOs (and I'd tell you if I'd cleaned it up, honest!)

ohh absolutely !.. that is why I was thinking how challenging it wud be on a bright sunny day.

What a perfect Geometry ..

Tony Smallman   {K:15490} 4/30/2008
I see you bought the Sigma 105mm.A good angle on this village..sort of natural cubism.Might be worth trying out some PS filters on this...find edges, watercolour or something similar.A painterly effect printed out on a textured fine art paper would be interesting.
Take care Tony.....looks/feels like Summer has arrived!

Tony Smallman   {K:15490} 4/30/2008
Mis read the lense info.!I don't understand the macro@ 105

AJ Miller   {K:44247} 4/30/2008
Thanks Tony. Actually, I have bought the 105, but the info on this image is correct - the lens here is the 70-300. This lens includes "macro" in its name - it has a switch which allows closeups but with a magnification of 1:2 is actually not a true macro lens.

It was just a coincidence that I had it set to 105...

It would be nice to see some sky in the picture AJ,but any way I like it!! greetingz, riny

AJ Miller   {K:44247} 5/1/2008
Thanks Riny! I appreciate your comment and opinion, even though I disagree totally! The sole objective of this shot was to capture the abstract pattern created by the buildings alone. I think that including some sky would turn it back into "just another" picture of this much photographed town.
