| About |
may 2008 café ‘t Mandje of in 1967 deceased Bet van Beeren is a land-mark on the Zeedijk. ‘t Mandje was one of the first café’s where homo’s and lesbiennes their true nature didn’t have to hide and it made Bet into a icoon within the Amsterdam gayscene. When Bet died her sister Greet managed the café for some time. Since then the café has been closed for 25 years. On Koninginne night 2008, café ‘t Mandje however has opened its door again with the same interieur as then and is managed by family of Bet and Greet. (On the far right chair is a name tag: in the sixties Shirley MacLain sat there once....)
