About May 4, 2008 - Memorial Day

At eight o'clock in the evening everybody in the Netherlands is supposed to be quiet for 2 minutes to remember the people and soldiers who died during wars here and abroad.
The man that got arrested was not quiet and wanted to go to the War Monument on the Dam square. He was shouting and that is not allowed during the rememberance.
"I want to go to the Dam", he screamed. Well, not today!

LoL. Now he can shout in jail all he wants. Great action shot

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/5/2008
Earl - this first time the police removed him, he wasn't arrested. But then he came back and was shouting and running in the direction of the War Monument.... that is when he got arrested.
Maybe he was on "medication"... or something like that.

Some interesting journalism. I especially like the concerned look in the policeman's face.

luis pereira   {K:17538} 5/5/2008
Not as passionate as the first one but still good.

Dave Stacey   {K:111920} 5/5/2008
A very good journalistic action shot, John!
Dave.

Great capture - I hope that you submitted this to the newspaper! Great Journalism John!

Liz Wallis   {K:25041} 5/5/2008
A wonderful piece of journalism. you captured the emotion of the moment very well John.

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/5/2008
Paul - I was glad it happend right in front of me... :-)

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/5/2008
Luis - a whole different scene then "the first one". :-)

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/5/2008
Dave - thank you. When things start happening right in front of you, it is easy to take a few shots. (I should have changed the ISO setting... now the photo's are a little blurred....)

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/5/2008
Mervo - thank you. No, I didn't send this picture to any newspaper. I used to work as a photo-journalist, but todays photo-editors are managers and don't have a clue about photography. So they don't get my pictures anymore.

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/5/2008
Liz - thank you. The policemen wanted to get this done fast and without too much noise, because there was still that memorial going on...

The Pilgrim   {K:32142} 5/6/2008
I think it is very good shot as well.....I really like how you have the subject in some good aceptable sharp focus but the second one on the radio is blurred showing good
action! Good angle and work catching the background and not
having it destract from the subject. I would think this would be even a greater shot in Black and white! Either way its a great shot and some excellent journalistic photography!

Congrats!

Pilgrim - thank you for your comment.
I have tried this photo in B%W but it doesn't work for me. Look for yourself..........

The Pilgrim   {K:32142} 5/6/2008
Oh yeah John it looks like you are right. It does work
better as a color shot! Strange......
Again great work and thanks for sharing that!

John Melskens   {K:4840} 5/6/2008
Pilgrim - .... maybe because there are just a few colors in the photo.
(Why don't you have any pictures online?)
