I love the detail of the water droplet and the fuzz on the stem. Nicely done!

Thanks Bill, This old lens might not help me with bird shots much, but it looks like it still has a lot of life left in it. Not bad for a 40 year old lens :) I was so pleased to be able to use it again with the D200. I did the conversion myself at work. The lens was the one that came with my Nikkormat FTN when I bought it new in 1969. Andre

Very crisp, Andre! You have just strengthened the "it might come in handy, someday" argument!

Hi Kes, Today I tried a few using my old Vivitar 2x teleconverter on the same old 50mm lens. It also works in manual mode and Aperture priority. I just have to punch in the non cpu lens info to 100mm and f4 instead of 50mm f2. The teleconverter didn't even have to be machined because it was made after 1977, so it is an AI Nikon bayonet. Never throw anything out when it comes to photography. :) Andre

What I find so exciting here, Andre, is the vivid coloring under such a brilliant fidelity of details, that buth didn't turn the image to "Disneyland". Especially the tiny hair of the front tulip on the green part (how do we call that?) is to me a real achievement of nature photography! And the composition is very good too. The black fence adds much there! BTW, nice to see that the balck of the fence remained rich deep black!
Surely your work with the 50mm was more that worth doing!
Cheers!
Nick

Thanks Nick, Yes, I'm very pleased in general with the fact that I can use these old lenses again. As far as this shot goes, personally, I don't really like the compposition (with the fence in the background) all that much. But, I was very pleased with the colour and detail in the image. I can't wait to get some images in brighter light up around f11 or f16. BTW, even the flash works in synch with the old lenses too. (another bonus) Andre

So, we could say that youe equipment is still usable, Andre! Which is of course a big fat advantage! Good optics never die, I guess.
As about the composition, well.. I find exactly that black fence in the background very good. It enhances the color of the tulips themselves formy eyes.

Hi Nick, Yeah, I wasn't sure about, or worried about the composition very much in this shot. But, I can definitely see that I will get a lot more nice shots out of my old lens. Andre
