About Mother's Day is a day honoring mothers, celebrated on various days in many places around the world.
In most countries Mother's Day is a new concept copied from western civilization. In many African countries, the idea of one Mother's Day has its origins in copying the British concept, although there are many festivals and events celebrating mothers within the many diverse cultures on the African continent that have been there centuries before the colonials arrived. In Japan, Mother's Day is a heavily marketed concept.

Different countries celebrate Mother's Day on various days of the year because the day has a number of different origins.

What a wonderful shot dear Jen. You have shown so much going on here. Might need a touch of contrast. Im sure all the mums will love this. Hugs and xxx Keith:)

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008
It might need a lot more, the quality is quite bad, as I was on my way and never sure what would happen in this country;)
So, shots had to be taken fast and mostly out of the car quick!
If someone feels like resharpen or PS my shot, please be welcome:)!! Have a lovely day Keith,
Big hugs, Jenxx

oh my... excellent phto... now THAT is a family with...lot of members Jen, and what a great field here, excellent image and... after that we need less gass and more rice I think... so we must STOP the gass product from the food...

Riny Koopman   {K:59873} 5/11/2008
O yes Iam agree with Keith...:) kus, riny

Hi Jen, happy mother's day to you too. Was very happy again to read your about, it is so much different when you do the writing. I was very glad to know that you work with the SOS children in africa. We have one here that is within the community, sometimes I offer my photo services for them when needed. I like system they are doing, to grow up with a family.
Beautiful capture here, not only of the children but I also noticed the background with animals and green hills. Very good environment, looks like everyone is happy, lovely smiles from the children. Good to see photos from Ethiopia with happy faces, I remember other sad photos from this place. thanks for this photo, it is lightening..
great shot!
regards..

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008
I really dont hope this is one family dear John,
but you never can be sure:) Do you mean we need less grass or gass?? I would like to loose my gass although solar power should be much better,
but please explane what you mean first;))) If you mean grass, yes I agree, there is so much cattle and grass, not much else growing there.....
Hoping you had a lovely day, all relaxt!! xxJen

Thank you so much my dearest Stan, I love your flowers as well, its a great dedication for all!!
This was a bunch of kids on the way while I was driving through Ethiopia, there are so many people
living there and cows, amazing:))
Big warm hugs my dear, Jenxx

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008
Thank you so much again dear Stan, you did well,
I think its just a bad quality picture I took,
very hard to get it clear, isnt it;)))
Warm kiss and thanks a lot Dad, xxJen

Do you have SOS-Children Villages in
your country as well?
Be well and enjoy your evening, big hugs jenxx

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008
Dear Bobot, how great to read you have heard about SOS, I used to work there while I was in Africa, not now in Holland. While I was driving from Holland to Capetown I did visit many of those homes, its mostly great to see how this organisation works, its original from Austria,
there is the head office of all this.
I did also photowork there and making reports as some of the orphant houses havent been visited for years!!! Specially Sudan and Ethiopia are not been visit for a long time and yes you are so right, its amazing to see all these happy kids with one mom...great way of caring for these kids from all ages, isnt it? Yes I have seen also very sad things, but even here in Holland its getting worse we have food banks, can you believe?
Its nice talking to you, great sharing this, thanks a lot my dear;)) Have you got kids yourself? Big hugs, Jenxx

John Hatz   {K:144528} 5/11/2008
we need less gass of course... :-)

don't know the right word but I mean that we make gass, petrol anyway using plants, that is the couse of the price rice of the rise (etc) and so many people cannot buy there food...

1301307 60   {K:41451} 5/11/2008
Yes Jen, I am quite aware of some of the history of this SOS and its origin, we were briefed up about this. I think I posted 2 photos from the orphanage here at Uf. http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1269879
http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1268539
Yes Jen, I have 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys. My daughters are all graduates already. their pictures are here also, photoart..: ) http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1412600

Maryam Sahafzadeh   {K:2798} 5/11/2008
Great shot, wish I was there...haha
Many thanks for your nice comment, yourr intersted in my work make me happy, keep in contact with your friendly critiques.
hug

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008
Lolllolll...well my guess wasn't that strange as there is so much grass there and no food for the people, just for the cattles, which they dont eat.... I do agree with the gass partly, as we have gass in the Northsea here and thats were we
get it from, electricity is also much more expensive, but we are getting more better with windmills now, those ugly huge things, but if it helps its worth it!
Petrol should change, its all invented but I dont think Shell etc will give up producing it...... cars driving on hydrogen.
I know exactly what you mean my dear, the world has about to change...before its too late!!

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/11/2008
Thanks so much dear Maryam, to be honest I dont think you would have liked it there, Ethiopia is not an easy country to drive through, there are hardly any tourists as you cant drive there yourself without a guide And really so many people, as soon as you get out of your car there's hundreds of people around you..;))
It will be nice to stay in contact, thanks dear,
hugs Jenxx

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/12/2008

Dan Wilson   {K:13611} 5/13/2008
Very lovely shot dear Yen, they are so cute when people have cameras around. Not too many are camera shy :-). Great capture of the moment

Dan Wilson   {K:13611} 5/13/2008
So sorry, Dear Jen, spelt your name wrong. I did this because I was pronouncing your name in my head ;-)

Jen van Wijn   {K:21028} 5/15/2008
Well, you would be surprised how many people didnt want to be on my photo dear Dan.
They seem to believe that you will take their soul out with photography, so it was hard to find people to pose and it was a pity, like the Masai from Kenya were getting really angry, even with asking nicely! So, I could have very interesting shots there, don't have this trouble with animals...lolll So, thats better for me...:)))
Be well, Hugs Jenxx
