It looks like very gloomy day. Vegetation is still not up to standard. Only this birdie is ready for show off. Good capture Andre.

Very nice capture of him, Andre! Great colours and good dof.
Dave.

Thanks Tap,
Yeah, I noticed that about the gloomy clouds and sparse vegetation. I thought the contrast of the gloomy background and the bold, bright bird worked nicely.

Thanks Dave,
These guys are hard to get close to around here. They are very shy.

Nice intimate bird shot. I love the goldfinches. Ours have not shown up yet in SW Montana. They spend the summer in my yard and I am glad they do. Nice DOF with this shot, Stan:)

Michele Beccia   {K:3792} 6/2/2008
Very beautiful the contrast beetween the colours of the bird and the rest, excellent!:)

Andrzej Pradzynski   {K:21195} 6/3/2008
Good capture Andre and I know it's not easy with those guys to get them right. They are so fast and restless. Cheers, NJ

Thanks Stan,
I think I know what you mean by "intimate" in this case. At first I was a bit concerned about the composition because I thought maybe the bird was too small in the image. But, the more I think about it, the more I think this works okay because of the nature and character of these little guys.
Thanks for the comment and visit.

Thanks Michele,
That is one of my favourite things about this image too. I was lucky the day was over-cast.

Thanks Andrzej,
Yes, you are right. I was chasing him around the field for a little while, but he never let me get very close. I was pretty happy with the way this one turned out.

Like a splash of color in the monotony of brownisn-grey! I find the strong selective focusing quite the right way to go for giving that guy the whole importance, Andre! Small, yes, but the real king of the scene!

The branch out of focus quite near to the visual region of the bird is a bit disturbing when I don't keep all my attention on the goldfinch, but I also know that we don't have all the time of the world for many different setups when trying to get a good image of birds. Birds are always in a hurry, it seems!

Cheers!

Nick

Thanks Nick,
I think we see it the same way on this one. I really liked the contrast of the bird with the drab background. As far as the out of focus stick goes, I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately these birds won't go where I tell them to for the optimum shot. :) Some of them are natural posers though.

Precioso pajarillo y encantadores colores, tanto en el ave, como en el entorno!
Una composición magnífica!
Felicitaciones!

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 6/14/2008
Thanks Alicia,
I am very pleased with this one.

This oone was definitely such a poser, Andre! It seems to know exactly about the own photogenity! ;-) They have indeed their very own mind about poses, which at the end might contradict some of the usual "rules" of photography but which at the same time makes it look quite natural.

Cheers!

Nick

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 6/17/2008
Hi Nick,
Yes, like you said before, the birds just won't listen to us. :)
Andre

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:92493} 6/18/2008
Definitely! Those sparrows still think that my balcony is their toilette! ;-)

Hmmm... perhaps putting a glass of scotch on the balcony? ;-)

Nick

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 6/24/2008
Scotch on the balcony? I thought you wanted to get rid of the birds, not attract them. :)

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:92493} 6/25/2008
You are right! I thought that the consequences of scotch would frighten them, but no! Now they keep returning more and more often, and I think I could already open the "Sparrow's night bar"! ;-)

Cheers!

Nick

So perfect Andre! I love his colors against the branches and background.

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 7/15/2008
Thanks .B,
I was lucky it was overcast. As you say the colours contrast nicely. I think maybe even better than bright blue against yellow.
Andre

Robert Chin   {K:20465} 7/15/2008
Lovely splash of color Andre, sure is smart as he is beautiful.
Take care
Robbie

Andre Denis   {K:55940} 7/19/2008
Thanks very much Robbie,
For some reason, I didn't get email notification of some comments for a couple of days. This was one of them.
Andre
