About Growing wild in Lynde Creek Conservation Area, east of Toronto.

The original colour version of a previously posted B&W image.

The title refers to the name of the plant.
I believe it is some kind of wild Lily.
Also known as Drop Berry or Sealwort.

Nicely composed and great colour, Andre!
Dave.

Thanks Dave,
I thought I would post both versions of this one. I always like the way those leaves turn out in B&W, so I can't resist.

Thanks Hussam,
I'm glad you like it!
These kind of plants are very photogenic. They look good to me from every angle. :)

Andre,
I like very much upper part of the picture. Great repeating pattern of flowers and leaves. The crop of the scene would be really a powerful expression of the nature rhythms and colorful softness. Cheers, NJ

excellent wonderfully seductive

Andre Denis   {K:56160} 6/14/2008
Thanks Andrzej,
I think I agree with you about the top half of the image being stronger. Those leaves are very photogenic. The repeating pattern of the flowers is also what attracted me to take a few shots.

Thanks a lot Roger,
It's funny, I look at some flowers and I just don't feel like shooting them. But this type, I see something very photogenic.

keke yeah.. I notice you do a lot of flower shots and animals .. which I personally dont care much for but I loved the feeling of the flowers in this shot.. quite fecund

Andre Denis   {K:56160} 6/14/2008
Just lately, I have been doing quite a few along the lines of wildlife, floral and landscapes.
I seem to have little cycles of interest.

Personally, If I was told I had to eliminate all but 50 images, I think most of the ones that would stay would be from my "Darkside" portfolio.

The B&W put some more enhancement on the lines of the leaves at the top, Andre, but still this one captures the "being" that plant much better for me. I find its good green monochrome character very nice here. Again a very good framing in the sense of composition out of the rather chaotic growth of plants. I guess this is a special discipline for itself, to be able to see some part of the whole natural scene that "does something" as an image. Great image in green!

Hi Nick,
You might have a point about the green and dark background working a little better than B&W in this case. Sometimes the B&W takes a while to grow on us. Colour has that great advantage of being initially seductive.

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:98829} 6/18/2008
Hi Andre!

Yes, the B&W is less seductive at the start, but most of the time it has time on its side. It works perhaps not as fast but it works very strongly. Sometimes it reminds me of... old silent russian masters of chess. Strange.

On this one there is something of the B&W that it has too, and that's the monochrome character. Well, quasi-monochrome, but in the general sense it approaches "black & green" instead of black & white. So it does carry a bit of the look and feel of a B&W. Good to see that such things are already possible with camera/lens only.

Cheers!

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the additional kind words and explanation. I always thought that images with one or two colours and a good percentage of black are easy on the eye.
Andre

Indeed they are very good to look at, Andre! I must search for some similar subjects too.

Cheers!

Nick
