A striking composition - just two elements on a grid. A scene from reality given a graphic feel. The inflatable boat seems more appropriate for the beach than the snow. (Which gives me a thought - without the piled up snow at bottom left, it could be ambiguous as to whether this was snow or over-exposed sand...)

What an unusual shot. Most of us would have been tempted to poke the lens through the fence but including it gives the image another dimension. I think I'd be tempted to crop the horizontal top of the fencing to match the bottom of the frame. It's good to see the old 50mm standard lens being used (says me who's got loads of them but very rarely use them).

Yes Michele, you are absoultely right. As I stood on this side of the fence and was looking out, I had the exact feeling that I wrote here (in a poem). I wanted to go out and slide on the snow on those rubber things along with those kids.. but alas, age and responsibilities held my hands. Also, note, I have kept a little free space at the top of the fence and did not cover up the whole frame, to build my story - otherwise it may have looked like captivity !

I know :):):) .. and that is exactly why I kept that very small part of piled up snow at the bottom left of the image.. AJ also pointed it out !!! ..

Congratulations for this so simple but so strong spectacle, Avi! After having seen so much fantasy-salad made in PS about such subjects, I jump off ground with this serious, strong, definite, and *photographical* implementation!
From the purely visual point of view, it gives me a nice kick by the splash of the red/violet colors in the foreground of a B&W-like image. And another one for its absolute geometry in plane (the grid) and perpendicular to the plane, i.e to the depth of the leading line from the snow-boat (or whatever we call it) to the out of focus kid back there. (Not to mention the very exact exposure that turned the most part of it behind the grid simply white.)
These two things, color and geometry, together with the partial DoF generate some "memory" but also "wish" for the now unreachable childhood. It unreachable because that grid is the unoenetrable limit. I can't go any further than that. It also has some similarity to time. Much like the limit up to which mind can walk back in time on the wish to re-discover what was that, which "enabled" childhood. Up to that point I can walk back, but whatever lies behind that is only visible with uncertainty - perhaps because my mind was conditioned in a way that doesn't allow to really see what makes up childhood. The wish is there but the boundaries are hard.
Excellent idea, really, am more than deserved EC-award, and hat off with a big big cheers to you!!!
