About No clear identification of this specimen - sorry! It is very small - the flower head is a buttercup (Creeping Charlie.)
PS. Thanks to everyone who helped identify this critter!

Looks like it may be some type of skipper butterfly, Eb, but I'm no expert! You got a great macro of it though, whatever it is!

Great detail and color, Eb!:)

Hi Eb. Great detail and colour - appear to be very similar to what we call here 'skippers'. Fast flying from flower to flower, not always so easy to get - I posted one a year or so ago - have a look. Regards.

Hi Eb, went back to that photo : http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1070879

I am sure it is a skipper species, the large head, stout body, short antlers and even the markings are similar

Yes you are right, Joggie! It is a skipper. My manual only lists one type, not all like this one - I should throw it away! Using the internet is better. I found a govt. of Canada site that lists all butterflies found in Canada! Much better! Apparently this is an Arctic Skipper! Interesting how stylistically we differ in our photographs of this butterfly!

Again you are right, Dave! It is a skipper. With an internet search, I am more positive that it is an Arctic Skipper.
Eb
