About It is not a particular breed of cat and may be mixed or of a specific breed. The all-black pigmentation is equally prevalent in both male and female cats. The black color is of obvious benefit to a cat hunting at night. In Western history, black cats have often been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens: in other cultures they are considered to be good omens.
Black cats have been found to have lower odds of adoption in American shelters compared to other colors
Historically, black cats were symbolically associated with witchcraft and evil. In Hebrew and Babylonian folklore, cats are compared to serpents, coiled on a hearth. The cat was worshipped in Egypt and to kill one was a crime punishable by death. When an Egyptian family's cat died, the cat was mummified and the family went into mourning. Romans, also, considered the cat sacred and introduced the animal into Europe.
In most European countries, except Britain and Ireland, a black cat crossing one's path is considered bad luck; they were also seen by the church as associated with witches. Black cats (and sometimes, other animals of the same colour, or even white cats) were sometimes suspected of being the familiars of witches.

The belief that cats can see in the dark is an exaggeration. Felines can see no better in total darkness than humans can, but special night-vision adaptations allow them to see extremely well in even the dimmest light, a vital ability for nocturnal hunters. While sensitive hearing may help the cat initially detect prey, its keen, nighttime-adapted vision permits it to identify the location of a potential meal with deadly, laser-beam accuracy.

Wishing you all good luck today and
having a wonderful weekend! xxJen

What these eyes all could see. Impressive deadly look.
Fortunately you are not a cruel black cat just a friendly blond lion.

Goede reis naar Schiphol Jen,

en ... Good luck also for the team tonight,
hugs from Paul

Do you love cats, having one yourself? I used to when younger, not now anymore while travelling a lot! Hoping indeed I'm not a whitch, I could use some of their attitude though....:)) I prefer bigggg cats anyway, being a lion myself, birthday next month:)))

Can't wait to see my lions soon! Zo naar Schiphol via de achterhoek, wordt een aardig tripje..vanavond soccer in een hotel, jij bent toch ook nog wel een beetje voor Holland, ga je kijken? liefs en kus Jenxx

from a white princess Bangee;))
But dont believe all the bad stories,
we must have seen them crossing many times

Have a lovely weekend my dear friend,

impressive shot... and very impressive the way you... get the camera so closed to her... without afread you and impressive eyes, I mean the colours, are they a result from the flash? really unique colours.
be well!

Stan Ciszek   {K:28374} 6/21/2008

Wow, scary stuff! Strange how the eyes are different colours. This is a difficult shot, and exactly one that I've wanted to try for a while. I'd perhaps like to see the nose sharply in focus, as well as the eyes, but that is going to be tricky!

AJ

PS. And as a Brit, black cats are always welcome to cross my path!

Gaetano (Nino) Aievoli   {K:3357} 6/22/2008
