Not just a hawk, Greg. An accipter, either a Cooper's hawk or a sharp shinned hawk -- maybe one of our experts will tell us which. I'll guess a Cooper's because of apparent size, but the squared tail has me a little confused. These hunt birds, and were actively exterminated by farmers a century ago to protect their chicken flocks.

I really like the backlighting, the soft light on his face, and the outstanding background.

as any kind of wildlife photo that is also great, impressive hawk placed well into the frame and pretty good quality for a tele photo Gregory... ALSO even the lighting conditions looks really difficult for a tele lens (that is also not very bright) you get the details perfectly on the bird... I know how hard is to take a good shot with a big lens, excellent job.
best regards!
