Het jong herkent de moeder aan de geur en het geluid. Een paar dagen na de geboorte herkent het jong ook haar strepen..:) groetjes, riny

Glimpsed this yesterday but didn't realise it was yours and didn't get a chance to comment. And now it's got a BIP! And what a lovely shot it is too. The foreground and background are perfect to offset this wonderful wildlife image.

For some reason, the concept of zebras beside the sea is somewhat unexpected, but I guess that's just because this part of the world is totally unknown to me...

Outstanding in tones:
bravo
and congratulation for award my friend.

Joggie van Staden   {K:41275} 7/8/2008
Thanks AJ - Zebras next to the sea? According to historical records they did occur along the southern Cape sea board before they were annihilated through excessive hunting by the farming pioneers and some quite ruthless "royal hunting" trips. The private nature reserve where I took this photo is one of a very few places in South Africa where you may now find Zebra next to the sea. Large tracts of our coast have been modernised by the agricultural industry and lately by the holiday/tourist industry. Regards.
Joggie

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:104385} 7/8/2008
A more than deserved BIP award, and hat off to you, Joggie! At that distance and under the not so strong light of that time of the day, to still get such a clarity and such details.. that's more than an "achievement" to me! The very clear composition just turned the zebras to real protagonists. The contrast of their stripes against the background is magnetizing. The timing was also just about perfect. This could make it into the publications of National Geographic! You should perhaps go for it.

Cheers!

Nick

John Hatz   {K:152703} 7/8/2008
Excellent shot, the quality is very impressive, especialy for a shot that taken far away using a tele lens... ok... a good tele lens I bet but I know that even when we have the best tele lens we...must try hard to take a clear shot... even with stabilizers, excellent tight frame Joggie. lol... big kid but still needs his mama! :-D
be well!

Beautiful wildlife, Joggie! I enjoy the poignant pose reinforced by warm evening light! The gradation in the background blue is the opposite of what one expects and thus adds to the novelty! Congratultions on the award!
