Yes, I realized immediately as my friend Syamantak mentioned the same (in my language).. I was having a feeling something doesn't work.. and bingo !!.. I LOVE Usefilm beacuse of these positive critiques..

Wonderful... have you ever seen the movie "Dead Poet's Society" ? There is a scene where the teacher makes the students look at images of long past students and whispers, "Carpe Diem..." while they take it all in... That one moment is worth watching the entire movie.

Moises Levy   {K:722} 7/17/2008
Interesting in B&W, Congrats....

Stan  Hill   {K:10040} 7/17/2008
Are these your BIP or POD. It is all good at UF. thanks for all the imagination you share with us and the comments you share as well. Be well, Stan

Aline Nedelec   {K:1067} 7/17/2008
Once again, giving a short look at the recent pictures, your catch my eyes. Where does come from your smart and sharp eye ?
Just a low POV and a semi framing, and it makes all the difference.
I would like to know why you choosed noise, and if you added it on post-process. On my mind, it adds some mistery and softness to the picture, in harmony with this gallery of remembrance.
Sorry for my english.

txules  .   {K:29399} 7/17/2008
very interesting, actually love the large empty room because adds a lot of tension; distorsion, noise and softness makes a strange picture which i love it;
excellent....txules

absynthius .   {K:16995} 7/17/2008
phenomenal minimalistic work Avi,
it feels like the canvas sinking, with 'all the faces in the mirror', never willing to stop dropping- and thus giving room to a shapeless formation eternal white- eternal wash away--- ghost indeed,

brilliant work Avi,
v.

Aniket Chakrabarty   {K:2469} 7/17/2008
This one is really good. Jio mama.

Gary Hill   {K:31539} 7/17/2008
The composition and the grain/noise appeal to me, Avi. It's another powerful image.
Regards, Gary

soumya     {K:4324} 7/17/2008
na avi da eta ekdom bhalo laglo na. no story, more towards abstractness. the vignetting at the corners is not needed. aager dutoi better chhilo etar cheye. sorry.

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/17/2008
jodio the top row of pictures is not in a st line, tobuo tui thik i bolechhish. ami 17mm e ektu wide niyechhilam, tate oi jinishta kheyal korini. anyway, I was more interested in the compo.

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/17/2008
Ni I did not Jim. On your tip, I looked it up on imdb, liked what I read, and added it on my Netflix list. Thank you very much !

best, Avi

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/17/2008
ha ha ha.. thanks Stan !! cheers, Avi

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/17/2008
Thanks very much, Aline. Well, I usually try to think differently and avoid the cliche when I am composing a shot in my mind (or in front of me, with my eyes).. maybe that's what you see.

About the noise, I added it, to give it an old film-like effect, to go with the mood and story I am trying to tell here.

cheers,
Avi

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/17/2008
Thank you !! :):)

Joggie van Staden   {K:41275} 7/17/2008
Hi Avi, I like the atmosphere created by the open space on top, giving it a sense of timelesness. The contrast and grain further enhance the atmosphere. Very creative work!
Joggie

Francisco N-G   {K:26892} 7/17/2008
Very nice study dear Avi, the weight at the bottom of the layout gives a sense of stability and immutable balance; like deeply saturated wood, sinks to the bottom of the lake. The mood is old and has the spirit of relics to be discovered. Great shot my friend!!!!

Cheers!

F.

Anindya Maity   {K:6451} 7/17/2008
Great idea and good comp.Beautiful use of the grain,b/w and the empty space.

Abhirup Chakrabarty   {K:393} 7/17/2008
past=vast ocean of memories left behind/void..sheta bojhanor jonne otota negative space rakha...and the pictures=ghosts.....khub shundor story telling....and the framed pictures give me a feel as if they are crawling towards the upper part to fill up that void...as a story telling picture this is brilliant...but IMHO, negative space-ta arektu(just a little bit) kom rakhle parte...just a personal opinion.. :)

Anne Knes   {K:47193} 7/17/2008
Nice work !!!!!

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:91061} 7/23/2008
See that, see that!!! I have a similar one, Avi, but yours is much better. I think that except the general view of "rectangles in a rectangle) the grain-like look adds a good touch of "aged" appeal, which then goes hand in hand with the "ghosts of the past". Still I wonder how to make those ghosts even more noticeable.... Any clue of what could be done in addition? I ask because I think that there is much more potential in such images but I didn't find it until now. :-(

Cheers!

Nick

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/23/2008
niether do I ! .. but my thinking was more to obscure the 'ghosts' .. I dunno.. :)

gianna piano   {K:13280} 7/23/2008
great feel...

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:91061} 7/24/2008
Obscure the "ghosts"... but how? Good idea in the theoretical parts of it, and just because of thos you put me into deep doubts.. Obscure ghosts, he says.. But they *are* already ghosts, so how to obscure them?

Avi, you have a very nice and a very hard property for me! You state things that are good for a puzzling beyond all trusty boundaries, you know that? There he goes and simply says "obscure the ghosts"!! ;-)

Cheers!

Nick

fotogr@vi     {K:50665} 7/24/2008
:):):) .. I am prone to confuse people with my thoughts and words.. because, I am super confused myself !! :):)

cheers !!!! (no confusion over THAT !!)
Avi

Dear Hussam,

I am happy to receive your enthusiastic comment, but it really does not help me towards improving my work. Please do not misunderstand me, but I would appreciate it a lot if you write a smaller and more meaningful critique.

best regards always, my friend.
Avi
